Router Tray (with home-made template/ \no fancy bits) | Woodworking

This is a bowl that I made with the router, it didn't take any fancy bits. It is made out of 7/8 thick mahogany. It came out alright, but it was experimental. I made the template myself with PowerPoint.

Thank you for this video!! Finally, a woodworking video done with tools I might actually own, not done with big expensive tools in big fancy workshops!!

*I absolutely love this tool!!! The first one was defective and Dewalt replaced **MyBest.Tools** More bulky than the Bosch and Makita corded palm routers I have but worth it. Nice solid base*

Thanks for the video. I managed it myself without the template. I just used thin strips of wood taped down to form the squares.

Very nicely done! Thanks for the idea of how you used the two different sizes of collets 👌👌

Do you know how many bloody videos I had to watch to find anything using a core box bit for this purpose… thank you!!

Ok. You need to know the best trick ever, lol. Screw the hot glue. Check it: Stick a piece of your blue tape to your board, and another to your template. Then put a few dots of CA glue (gorilla super glue, krazy glue, etc) on the tape on one of those pieces. Then position and hold it down hard for a few seconds until it sets. Boom, poor mans double sided tape, super fast, cheap, rock solid, repositionable until you apply pressure, thin, and can be pulled apart with no marks (you’re just pulling blue tape off the pieces). Perfect for router templates. And your sandpaper block, too.

I'm glad I stumbled upon this video. I was just looking through my router bits and I realized that I don't own a cove bit! I like your template and just may have to steal the idea, lol. Thanks for sharing this with us!

Man I wish I had taken up this hobby when I was your age. You are gonna be a bad ass wood worker at a young age I think. Fyi. Trim routers are super sweet. You`ll love it if you get one.

He man good vid. I get a kick out of you. FYI though those are bushings not collets. Collets are the piece that the router bit connects in to, to hold it on the router.

I got ideas from your video. I've got a heart cut out of 3/4 walnut and need to router it out. Thanks

Just in case you scrolled down here to tell me my "collets" were actually bushings.

Hi Blake, You seem like a knowledgeable guy and am hoping you can help me find a solution to my router bit problem. I make wooden knee sliders for motorcycle roadracing. My sliders are a simple rectangular shape with rounded edges. I have been making them with 90 degree sides and using a 1/2" diameter round over router bit (in a table) to soften the edges. I would like to angle the sides slightly in an attempt to minimize chipping since I use the more durable and longer lasting end grain on the main dragging surface instead of edge or face grain. Is there a way to make a chamfer and round over/soften the edge with one bit? I can't figure out a way to do it even using two bits. Is there such a thing as a round edged chamfer where the chamfer is straight but has a curved shape at the top? Thank you in advance for your time.
