I say this with complete sincerity- I wish I knew as much about any subject as Dan does about his. I have learned so much from his videos.

Most people aren't mythicists, so even if the box was really authentic, that doesn't really tell us much. If we already are granting that Mary, Jo, James and Jesus were real people, then the remains would confirm what we've already agreed is plausible.

It suddenly appeared around the same time that Dan Browns ridiculous theological consipracy novels did. I'm convinced.

Just so everyone knows D&D postage stamps are currently being sold at your local USPS 😊

It's an added-value ossuary: not only is it likely an authentic artifact, but the inscription presents a delightful set of conundrums! Conundra!

The fit for this video should’ve been Scooby Doo

Here for the fit; stayed for the lesson.

And there we see the difference between an honest and balanced telling of what we know and don't know about the ossuary and a biased account full of misrepresentation, because the speaker wants the story to be true and is more interested in promoting his agenda than in following the evidence. In other words, honesty and dishonesty.

"There are experts who have argued both sides of this"... Its almost as if a lack of provenance is a significat problem for demonstrating the authenticity or otherwise of any item.

The fact that the artifact is unprovenanced makes it worthless as evidence, IMO.

A statistical investigation of the likelihood of those three common names appearing in that population over an appropriate period would seem possible.

I remember when one of my teachers talked about the James Ossuary. She totally bought into the idea of the artifact being authentic.

This is an interesting one. Just unfortunate of these forgers making these findings leaving so much to be unknown.

Like Bigfoot, Aliens, and 9ft tall humans, none of that is conclusive, it’s always innuendo on some scale. That’s not a way to base one’s life.

I've thought this a number of times about artifacts... okay, so what? Maybe it's authentic. Most scholars believe Jesus was real, maybe his brother had an ossuary.

How common were those names? My father's name was common in his generation, my and my brother's name was common in our generation. I have almost never had a school class without another student with my first name, and had many classes with students with my brother's first name.

I forget who it was but someone was interviewed on CNN that said whether or not the ossuary belongs to James the Just, a lot of people seem to have learned about James the Just because of the buzz around it. Personally, I do love when more people learn about James!
