In 2002, the world was stunned with the announcement of a 1st Century ossuary which bore the inscription, "James, son of Joseph, brother of Jesus." Could this be the first piece of physical evidence which proved the existence of the man known as Jesus of Nazareth outside of the Bible? Debate still rages on about this particular ossuary, but in today's episode of Milling Through History, we look at this ossuary and let you, the viewer, decide whether or not it is real or a forgery.

I find it strange that the conclusion at the end of the video talks about the ossuary possibly being the only piece of concrete evidence of a real Jesus and of a larger family than we could have thought possible. I’ve no idea as to whether or not the inscription is fake, but the evidence of Jesus being a real person is beyond contradiction. Not only in the ancient texts of non Christian writers of whom there are many, but in the New Testament accounts, the letters and the subsequent letters of second and third generation Christian writers.

Step-brother or cousin. There is no doctrine of the exact relationship between Jesus and James in the Catholic Church or Orthodox.
