This video made me realize the Bilbo said "I should...very much like (...)", showing that he was most likely talk t himself to take the ring from Frodo but regained a little control mid sentence, changing to a more appealing and safe way to try to reo-obtain the ring. You can know lord of the rings for 20 years and still not know everything.
