Excellent presentation of the utility of Aikido. Since I did 20 as a cop, his revelation of the same hooked me immediately. I saw the application right away.

I trained under Sensei Dye at this very dojo. While there is certainly a focus on aikido he incorporated Judo and traditional jujitsu into much of what he taught. I got my black belt at this dojo and I trained there 8 years if I remember correctly. Next time I'm back in California I have to go visit him.

Sensei Ford, great video! Sensei Dye is a technical teacher and it shows. Thank you for the content. I am looking forward to more of your videos! I hope you can looking into Wado Ryu since there are some elements of tai sabaki and the founder Soke Hironori Otsuka embraced jujitsu. I highly recommend Wado Ryu Sensei Nishimura in Laguna Niguel.

Being taught by a master who has been a LEO is so valuable. I dont know if he's the only LEO teaching civilians. Teaching not only the art but the "before/after" from a LEO perspective that is missing from all MA schools. So, I'm sure it's happened many times where a MA student might be too amped up from being in their first street fight/real fight and might go into "film action hero mode". Go too far. And figuring it won't matter since he was defending. And thought it would be okay to throw in an extra punch and kick. Not figuring that could land him in court and jail. Huge legal fees.

Something that happens with people who live in states where carrying a firearm is legal if licensed. Civilians. Guys carrying firearms concealed because they've watched too many action films. And have a naive and confused view of reality. NOT aware that in a shooting there are steps that must be taken. Or defending oneself using a gun can land them in jail/massive legal fees.

Did you purposely avoid asking to talk to Steven Segal?
