When I lived in the Califonia desert and had my horses I never wasted my time checking for sand. I just automatically fed psyillium husk. Worked very well.

had a colic scare with my mare last night. turns out she was just impacted thank goodness but still super scary. I almost lost a gelding to colic last fall and this time i’m happy we were able to catch it early enough.

This is a great hack. Did this when I had my horses. We had chronic sand in manure and used sand lac. As directed.

Well I personally feel that you don't actually need to use a plastic bag to do this you could actually use like a clear glass vial. And make sure it has either a strong little recorder that goes on top and then you could shake it up and it have the same effect. Or you could actually use like a plastic container. Peanut butter jar of pickles are something of that sort. You know all of Gerald work. This way you don't have to risk popping ziplock bag and having poop water all over you.

I have owned horses for almost 11 years, my mom is a vet and I've never heard of this. I definitely need to try this when our horses come back from the field

I never thought about that. My horses lived on Long Island for quite a few years but I moved them to South Florida in the mid-70's. They were on pasture too during the day but I always had them vet checked periodically so I'm sure he probably checked for that. Gee, no one mentioned that to me but apparently you knew about it. Thank you for the info. I'm glad I don't have horses today as I couldn't afford it.

We do this at our barn and we keep Metamucil in the feed room and whenever we get hungry we eat it like dry 💀💀💀

We live in Nevada so we have to use sand clear quite regularly. Even though we use slow feeders and rubber mats they still manage to get the hay in the sand.

You can do this in a clear glove as well it’s quite common by the coast here in England I do it with mine once a month
