I got one for just under 400 and it is still a beast. You have to remember what the is set for. This is not for pro users. You can do pro stuff on this but that not what it is designed for. If you are in college it would be perfect for you.

I have gotten a 2nd hand M1 MacBook Air w/ 16gb ram and 512gb ssd and thrown my Windows gaming laptop out the window (mentally).

Best decision ever as it can do 95% of the stuff better. And for the 5%....I have another mini desktop PC to step in.

I got extremely lucky buying a 2020 MacBook Air M1 base model and the battery cycle count is only at 29 cycles which confirms is a brand new computer and it doesn’t have any marks chips scratches or dents on it for amazing $200 in 2025 and works great the M1 is still powerful

It is much much worth. I have a 16 inch MacBook Pro but I recently bough a m1 MacBook Air with 16GB and 1TB SSD for $650 in excellent condition. It is not possible to get the same in M2 or M3 is impossible. The issue with 256GB is what apple has done with cloud storage solutions. Since many people use iCloud/OneDrive/Google Drive / Dropbox, it is now impossible to sync these to an external drive ( I think since Mac OS 12.3 or something). Not everyone has the highest speed internet to download files on demand, so I guess it is time for apple to make 512GB standard. :)

my acer laptop screen is dying on me lol, and i just purchased a refurbished macbook m1 air with 512 GB for just over 600$. Cant wait to get it! I used to daily drive one in high-school, but because that was a school computer i couldn’t keep it, so i got a windows. can’t wait to get it!

Love your review. Using the base model for two years now and it's been great. However, I'm just a professional writer so there's not a lot of RAM usage or anything like that lol. I was always planning on getting an upgrade to M3 or maybe even just M2, but I'm still not sure if that's worth it for now financially and workflow-wise.

Is it worth buying an air m1 13" 8/256 in 2025 new for 700 bucks? I'm worried that in 4 years in the box the battery may degrade a lot?

256 GB of storage is definitely not enough not this day and age. It should be standard 512 GB.
