I remember hearing this song for the first time in 1971, when my uncle played side one of this epic album when I was visiting my grandparents for Thanksgiving at the age of 9, and it blew me away!!!Now, at age 54, this song still blows me away!!!

The song is a cover of the Bertolt Brecht/Kurt Weill Opera "The Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny" (1920s Opera about classism). Hate when the descriptions don't give credit to covers....

Well, show me the way
To the next whisky bar
Oh, don't ask why
Oh, don't ask why

Show me the way
To the next whisky bar
Oh, don't ask why
Oh, don't ask why

For if we don't find
The next whisky bar
I tell you we must die
I tell you we must die
I tell you, I tell you
I tell you we must die

Oh, moon of Alabama
We now must say goodbye
We've lost our good old mama
And must have whisky, oh, you know why

Oh, moon of Alabama
We now must say goodbye
We've lost our good old mama
And must have whisky, oh, you know why

Well, show me the way
To the next little girl
Oh, don't ask why
Oh, don't ask why

Show me the way
To the next little girl
Oh, don't ask why
Oh, don't ask why

For if we don't find
The next little girl
I tell you we must die
I tell you we must die
I tell you, I tell you
I tell you we must die

Oh, moon of Alabama
We now must say goodbye
We've lost our good old mama
And must have whisky, oh, you know why

This used to be my cousin's ringtone around like 10 years ago and I always loved it. :) Whenever I hear this song, I instantly think of her.

It was my father's favorite song. Ironically he was an alcoholic and drank himself do death.

R.I.P. Ray Manzarek ... You were one of my earliest idols when it came to playing rock music on the piano/keyboard... I hope that you and Jim Morrison are jamming together right now... For those who don't know who he is, he was the keyboardist of The Doors, him, Jim, and Krieger and Densmore... We have lost a legend
