California is for visiting not for living....

So, Cali held the longest rent moratorium almost 3 years without collecting rent or evictions. Landlords will never see a dime of back rent. The state did nothing to stop banks from collecting mortgage payments nor did they stop collecting property tax. What did you think was going to happen?

Basicaly its the same because its not all landlords or management companys that ask for last months rent its always deposite&rent at equal amount.nothing changed.if they can stop them asking for paystubs to show 3x amount of rent .thats what needs to stop.

You need a new governor that believe in less taxes and smaller government!

It’s like that across the board not just San Diego. Guidelines to rent are never reasonable.

Small time land lords are exempt so this doesn’t really change much. In my experience most large apartments or prop management companies don’t ask for more than 1 months rent deposit anyways. It was always the small time land lords asking for 3 months rent.

Rent and deposit is too high but most tenants destroy property or dont pay rent resulting in higher deposits and higher rents. Where does all this end ?

This sickening. Smh. I own property, but I feel for those who need affordable housing. Most of the times these places are not even taken care of. But on the other side, rising property taxes make it hard for property owners to even get ahead.

What are the other states? They forgot that part.

Lord I lived long enough to see this change. I spent my young life trying to live with higher rent and two or more months more money. Thank you Lord

Rents are outrageous in Ohio too! The rent these landlords charge for some of these apartments and houses is ridiculous! They charge what the market rate may be for the area without even doing any updates to the property! 😠

Ofc you have to supply the info that can be verified that you can afford the rent. That is the process. Even in communist country, you can't get things free. It has been a practice that the security deposit is equal to one month rent. Maybe the landlords should ask the government to pay for the destruction leaving behind by the tenants.

Well what about months rent increases at move in? Landlords will now just ask for more months rent up front.

Caping the security deposit should help tenants when it comes to getting a greater share of their money back at the end of lease due to questionable damage claims but this won’t help affordability much unless months rent up front is capped as well
