Nothing better than honest hard working lads with a real world sense of dark wicked humour, got a love it

Many years ago I was having lunch with my family at a restaurant in Freiburg Germany. Outside the window a very large elderly chap (probably 20+ stone and close to 60) was laying brick pavers. He sat on a one-legged stool which was probably 18-24 inches off the ground. The one leg gave him the ability to easily rotate around 360 degrees and access many locations from his recumbent position. He had (if I remember correctly) 4 assistants who brought pavers, muck, sand and, yes … bottles of beer! The beer bottles were in a bucket of water which I assume was cold. He regularly uncapped a bottle and drank. This man had obviously been doing this for many many years as most of the pedestrian areas in Freiburg were covered in these pavers. The man was an absolute machine and I sat mesmerised watching the speed and accuracy he worked at. By the time we finished lunch he’d finished and moved on but the pavers were immaculate. BTW … he cut them, where needed, by hand!

It’s very important to have a laugh at work. These two seem to get on well.

Best thing about this video is that you can tell these lads care. Not churning it out being paid by the thou. Old school, like it a lot.

We had a lot of outside paving done, it looks great and even a couple of years later I still love looking at how smart it makes the house and I the team that fitted it were so professional they just worked like a machine.

That path looks absolutely lovely. You just know Meadvale are a quality outfit (bit of a clue is that they are on this channel, mind 😉). Love these 'gentle' shorts, Roger, with some amusing banter thrown in. Smashing stuff, thank you👍👍👍

Nice!
Thank you.
I've been thinking of digging up my terrible concrete block patio for a few years now, to replace with clay pavers but wasn't sure of the process.
Cheers!

My great grandfather was a bricklayer. One of the hardest jobs on the body but that was back when taking a salt tablet was a cure all.
