In episode 1 of our new mini-series Garden Diaries, Andy Peasgood chats with Diana Yates all about how she started her kitchen garden, what she's been growing, and how much this special green space means to her.

Diana spent 10 years living and working in South Africa before returning to Scotland in 2017 with her family and purchasing Greenfields, an 18th-century listed former manse with two acres of land.

Since then she has been using our Kelpie Compost and Green Goodness to develop her garden.

Diana is an avid gardener, presenter of BBC Scotland's flagship gardening programme Beechgrove, and writer.

Her first book, Growing at Greenfields, was released in May of this year. Diana shows that anyone can raise their own veg, create a plant theatre, cook seasonally, and decorate their home using home-grown dried or fresh flowers.

In the book, Diana also shares her favourite garden-to-table family recipes so you can show off your produce, from Garlic Scape Pesto to Comforting Cauliflower Soup. By growing, crafting and cooking, you can make a place that you can truly call home.

Stunning and oh so very peaceful vegetable gardening space. Diane's experience is so relatable in that she basically caught the "bug" and it became a passion. Wonderful personality!

Beautiful garden Diana! Great to see another garden convert, such a real connection to our earth and so rewarding in many ways. Nice to see you have a seat in your garden, its just as important to watch the flowers grow, it feeds the soul. You have a green thumb for sure.
