I just started my new position as a Scrum Master. I find my day coaching the organization and the Scrum teams.

It's such a cool position! Definitely unique and fulfilling if your organization understands your role.

So nice to hear about Scrum master 8hrs journey. Scrum master works with team who are from different culture, different language speaking, different attitude, different skills, different age group of people, let what may come Scrum master has to take team along. Scrum master competes his team with his team and not with any other teams. Scrum master is into leadership role, interact with leadership and stakeholders. Scrum master keeps team together makes sure teams are transparent > team does inspection > helps team adapt to good actions from retro. Oh boy need glucose for our Scrum master. Some more on Metrics, keeping team together on sprint goal, manage teams issues, track team performance vs forecast, work on team blockers or help team on impediments. Alright let me end for now, thanks to Agile and scirm framework coaching never end🌞.

I'd urge caution between being busy all day v being busy on the right things all day. It's too easy to be dragged into things that you really shouldn't be.

This is the first time I have ever heard of a scrum. Very interesting concept. It bridges identification of a problem and a finished solution of that problem.

I got asked what am i doing all day and what are other SMs doing (in the organization) :D
I said well, we work with the team, helping them to grow and with the leadership - helping them to understand what the scrum is, and then meeting with the team members, coaching them to become more effective.
I got a pair of completely lost eyes and the dev who said: ok, that's because you're new, and when you'll be done talking to everyone, what will you do?
I think i have missed the line that i'll start all over again :D

In general I've came across distrust to SM role stemming from conviction that everything SM does is in fact done by the team mates on their own. E.g. coaching on communication skill like feedbacking spurs immediate response like "so the team can't communicate? They're adults, da!". My point is that laying out SMs role is not only about actual actions, goals and results but also about addressing the pre-assumption and luck of trust.

Can you provide some thoughts around what success looks like for a scrum master and what those indicators or metrics would be? also, If you were to plot out a maturity map for twelve months, what top ten areas of focus should a scrum master focus on?

You’d think that the core values of respect and focus would be present especially in those who coach agile.
It’s a tendency to see a SM fall into the error of carting blame onto the product owner with the backlog and failing to grasp that the point of scrum is to iteratively and incrementally close the gap of uncertainty. While all of this is done in a manner of superiority forgetting the fact that it is a equal dynamic relationship. You don’t hear the woes and pains of product owners that have to remind their scrum master about the team’s agenda or what the project is about.
The busy work of accountability is needed for visibility but this could be done with a self managed and empowered team. Tasks that produce more value, as coaching, helping the team achieve maturity, introducing new techniques and activities for software development is the preferable focus. A scrum master should facilitate scrum activities and ensure that the organization is adaptive, with the perfect balance of standards and agility.

Great show!
A little bit of out of context question to the above video.
Scrum suggests working in small teams, but how one handles multiple teams working on the same product? Any pointers would help.
Thanks,

Great show. Lots to learn!

I am a new to the Scrum Master role on a fairly new/young scrum team. In order to take my team towards better maturity, my focus has been on my service to the PO and Dev Team. My focus to serve the organisation on all things agile has taken a backseat (for now). Is that an anti-pattern?

Do you have any advice for someone straight out of school to become a scrum master? I find it very vague.

Great show! When will you talk about Nexus? I will work with two development teams and a business team for a project. No problem for Development teams to implement Scrum. But not sure for business team. Can it be with two development teams to work together using Nexus framework? Thanks, Ryan and Todd.

Hi guys,

I know as scrum master I have a responsibility with the organization but how I am supposed to do that as a contractor located in Costa Rica working for a US based company.

I see the organization as a big black box.

Fortunately the organization has Microsoft Teams channels where I have been spamming questions and in that way unblocking my teammates.

Q: In larger organization what wisdom do you have in “scaling” or align teams scrum teams around product vision and goals?

Kezrush

starts at 1:50 .
Please give details not generalities. Give more details on the impediments. It sounds like you don't have a BA and the scrum master is functioning as a BA. A scrum master is usually not THAT technical that they can remove all those impediments. They are not involved in configuration, deployment, integration, thats handled by the dev team.
