How To Make One Stitch Knitting (m1)

Another Knitting Jargon video to beat that knitting jargon block.

I'll show how to make 1 today, shown in patterns as 'm1'. This technique can be known by many names, 'invisible increase', is usually what's written in patterns, and you'll also hear it spoken of as the 'increase without a hole'.
And while this all sounds rather 'cloak and dagger' this is a simple 'make one' with some fancy footwork to create a new stitch in the middle of a row without it interrupting the ease of stocking stitch.

Would you like a crowd of besties to cheer on your every row and finished knit?

Make sure you comment in the section below the video (I answer every comment!), we have lives on YouTube which let you meet me and fellow knitters.

And often have Knit-Alongs associated with the knitting kits which give you one-to-one video access to me via live knit and natter Q&As.

Thank you for such a clear and well-explained video! With lockdown I can not go to my knitting store for help so this was perfect.

Thank you! I, too, was dealing with holes in the thumb gusset of the mittens I was making. I appreciate that you took the time to demonstrate “a better way” to m1.

Thanks for this!! Every other example I saw is with the yarn held in a different position and I couldn’t figure it out for the life of me! Your demo is EXACTLY what I needed! Thank you!!!

Great technique to make it look neat! Mine always tend to look obvious and a bit messy ;)

I've been doing my M1 stitches this way but it still leaves a noticeable hole. Albeit it's a SMALL hole, but still a hole that isn't looking great in my sweater.
