That is an extremely poor representation of Janis singing a beloved and iconic song. Every time we sing we produce variations in the song. Obviously that day the motivation for Janis was to get through the song, perhaps due to outlying circumstances.
Come on now. I love hearing people sing other people’s songs. Let them stand on their own merits, not to be judged. To be enjoyed.
Both artists knew fully well about racial imbalance in industry standards. Imbalance due to sexism racism sexual identity
still exists today. People are still beaten and killed for these things.
Until we all learn to start speaking from our hearts about personal experiences rather than posing as bleeding hearts for the imagined hurts of those no longer with us..

JANIS…All day!! Way more dirty to where you feel it in your recesses. Erma’s is really really good so it’s easy to see how Janis got inspired to cover it one step further. Her version blew the doors open wider for the whole concept of gospel blues to flood mainstream.
