Believing there is no objective meaning is not the same as believing there is no meaning at all. You can have an all-consuming driving force in your life that you didn't explicitly decide to have and is totally non-negotiable to you, but still acknowledge that it doesn't exist independently of your own perspective. It's a lot like our sense of taste - just because you didn't consciously choose to find a certain flavor disgusting and no amount of rational thought can make you stop disliking it, that doesn't change the fact that taste is subjective. Jordan seems to think that passion disproves nihilism, but it most certainly does not.

All he proved is that facts and logic are subjective terms

Nietzsche was not a nihilist. A lot of people believe that he was because his writings against Christianity.

Just thinking about nihilism is terrifying. When I first came across nihilism, I got a chronic depression for two month. I didn't want to do anything and I just kept thinking about it. Even though nihilism is true, I like to stay fooled by religion and God, so i can keep on going in life at least. I'm not sure if there will be an after life(I really hope there is). I guess we all have to wait and see.

DESTROYED WITH FACTS AND LOGIC. Sounds like I don’t know what is going on but I’ll try to sound smart anyway

Nihilism seems pretty true. And not a bad way to live.

Existentialism and stoicism were only discovered by me because of my introduction to nihilism. Having no meaning in life is equivalent to the fool in tarot. When you are a clean slate, you have the potential to become anything.

If existance is meaningless, then why continue to exist? If there is no point to life, why continue to interact? Nihilism sounds like a hard cope to me, a rejection of self and the excuse to not even attempt to change.
The nihilist may be meaningless, but their lives are not. There is no such thing as absolute nothingness, because even in the blackness of space after the last star dies, there is still time and distance. Of course there would be no life to measure these things, but that does not mean they no longer exist.

The meaning of life is the experience we have with our time in existance. It is the moments from the beginning to end that serve as our story. Why adopt a pet if it will die one day? Why fall in love if that relationship is doomed to end? Why seek friends if we will one day never speak again? Why read a book if the story ends?

Because we want to experience the emotions in those moments of time from beginning to end. Because there is value in existance. If there wasn't, then why do anything at all?

Nihilism, as I told my own subscribers, leads to defeatism. If there are no values, no rights or wrong and everything is meaningless, then why bother to achieve? Whether you are religious or not, no one should accept nihilism. If you are religious you should not use nihilism as an excuse to do nothing on earth because heaven you think is waiting for you. Why would you think that--that your life here doesn't matter? If you are an atheist you should reject the concept of the nihilist even more--for you think this is all there is. Regardless of religious belief: you know one thing for fact. You are here and present. And while you are here anyway you should attempt to make the most of your life and leave your campsite better than you found it. Hope this helps someone out there---Charles.

I always hear people say you fool yourself, this sounds dumb to me, is it because they believe something you don't, they are fooling them selves?

Meaning of nihilism from what I understand is that there is no inherent meaning of life. From what I see, meaning of life is like an empty box, you can put whatever you want in there it doesn't matter. At the end of the whether you're devil or sage you will return to nothing, just like everything else. What nihilism gives you is absolute freedom.

3:00 Fully disagree. Lets look at hunter/gatherer tribes (there are still a few that exist) when a member gets too old or sick and slows down the group another member will kill them. They do this for the good of the group and the murderer sleeps soundly.
In the west of course we frown at this and if we murdered someone we'd feel terrible. Morals are societal constructs and can be changed or overcome.

You don't destroy nihilism, though nihilism might destroy you.

I think that he feels threatened by the ideas of nihilism. That's why he talks in such an angry and unreflective way. One can live very well as a nihilist without values from outside and create one's own meaning in life. The gentleman here just can't imagine it because he has a bad image of man. He thinks that people are only good when they are forced to be by a god. However, it also simply makes one happy.

I use to go for months depressed by this, till i witnessed a miracle and another and another and now am assured of the existence of God and the spiritual world, i would've never imagined such peace existed, from a nihilist to agnosticism now christian
