The authorities in Los Angeles warn that scammers and looters are taking advantage of victims of the wildfires that have devastated large parts of the city. One man is reported to have dressed as a firefighter in order to burgle a home and dozens of others have been arrested.

16 people are now known to have died in the fires with another 16 missing.

More strong winds are forecast but firefighters say they are making progress, with one major fire contained. Aircraft have now been brought in to help tackle the blazes as strong winds that have been fanning the flames have died down.

Reeta Chakrabarti presents BBC News at Ten reporting by Emma Vardy and John Sudworth.

Does this mean the police will go after Insurance executives and Equity Fund Managers?

This shows that just because you have a lot of money does not imply you are immune to disasters like fires, floods, and accidents.

How can the USA, a nation that has sent *$183 BILLION* to fund a war with a country they share no borders with, not find the money to fund and coordinate a department or taskforce to mitigate damage caused by wildfires, in an area known for wildfires around the world?

Instead of arming Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan; US, U.K, EU tax payers should be spent on infrastructure, healthcare and education, and homelessness etc.

Looting as people struggle to survive. Another exceptional example of why the US is the greatest country in the world!

This is exactly why you have a right to bear arms, especially when you do not have the police.

If you protect yourself, its ok for the right reasons. Its not ok to be the agressor, but you need to protect whats yours and that is America.

They've tolerated looting for sooo long! How can they shamelessly say this and expect people to believe?

Wise advise for the next president in line:

Use your money for your home, for your people, for your homeland not for genocides, not for wars abroad, not for gunmakers.

It would be interesting to see the risk assessment reports by the insurance companies that led them to deny coverage.

@2:15 Mayor smiling like a fool as her communities burn and while the policeman talks about a guy impersonating a firefighter trying to loot people’s homes. 😳

It will be interesting to see how insurance companies “pay out” on this “unexpected” disaster.

What you’ve done to Palestine, don’t forget. What goes around comes around. Comparing to the genocide in Syria, Afghanistan, Palestine one after another..it’s nothing. So chill..

This shows that no matter how much money you have it does not mean you will be exempt from things going wrong such as Fires, Floods, Accidents, e.t.c.
