Zalmoxis was the supreme god of the ancient Dacians, a group of peoples who lived in what is now modern-day Romania and parts of Bulgaria, Serbia, Hungary, and Moldova.

According to Dacian mythology, Zalmoxis was a mortal who became a god after he was initiated into the mysteries of the divine. He was believed to have the power to predict the future and to control the elements, and he was revered as a powerful and benevolent deity. The Dacians believed that Zalmoxis could be propitiated through offerings and sacrifices, and they had a number of rituals and ceremonies that were dedicated to him.

After the Roman conquest of Dacia in 106 CE, many Dacians were converted to Christianity, and Zalmoxis was largely forgotten. However, elements of Dacian religion and mythology have survived and continue to influence the culture and beliefs of the modern Romanian people.

As a Romanian & proud descendent of the Dacians, thank you for this informative video!
Yes it's true that the connection between Zalmoxis & Pythagoras is a highly controversial & debatable topic. Many people say that Zalmoxis was also a slave to Pythagoras as well. I am personally dubious of that claim but who knows. But what is objectively clear is that much of Zalmoxian traditions & culture has been preserved in the Romanian Orthodox religion & modern Romanian folklore & cultural heritage. Many traditions & customs, especially in the rural Romanian communities, still practice & celebrate the ancient Dacian civilization & Zalmoxian spirituality.
And there is a Neopagan movement called Zalmoxianism that is based on celebration & reconnection with the ancient Thracian & Dacian roots. It's a small number of people compared to the dominant Orthodox religion that a majority of Romanians belong to, but it is still interesting & remarkable that Zalmoxis is still officially revered in Romania to this day by some Romanians.
For anyone else interested in learning more about Zalmoxis & his connection with the ancient Greeks, then you should check out the Charmides dialogue of Plato, where Socrates talks about what he learned from a Thracian medic who was an initiate of Zalmoxian religion.
Here is a fragment from Plato's dialogue with Charmides that is quite remarkable & intriguing..."I, Socrates, learned this incantation there in the army from a Thracian physician, one of the disciples of Zamolxis, who is said to make men immortal. That Thracian said that Zamolxis, who is also a god, taught us that just as we should not try to treat the eyes without considering the head, neither can the head be treated without considering the body, so we must we give care to the body together with the soul, and this is why the Greek doctors are not good at most diseases: (namely) because they do not know the whole that they have to take care of."

3:17 Z is said to have gone to Pythagoras, from Romanian sources. On the other hand, Alexander the Great did a state visit to Sarmigesatuza.

I dunno...in a book is says there something of "the old man came", so an old man came among warrior women, and they receive him among them. Not sure if it makes reference to him...
I'm going to suspect that Dacians were the sons of warrior women from around Black Sea...

0:14= That map, its very not official - no time stamp on it, etc. . That map is like Austria - Hungary empire +Moldova + walachia . Serbian people was comming upward from south, south east . You talk about it, but on the map not included as of DACIA . This map not even " historical map " which is well documented by historians . Seem to us, this is again to make bigger than it is story of people . Etc...

Actually, it was a monotheistic religion.

All mythology (not only of Romania) is real. See the projections of the unconscious from C.G. Jung and one of the archetypes is the mythological hero. If it wasn't real, it wouldn't exist now.
In the time of Zalmoxe, in the 7th or early 6th century B.C.E. the territory of the greater part of Europe was called Getia, not Dacia, which is the name given only to the portion (Banat) of Getia.
The name Roman - Romanian comes from a free man, free from the devil and not from the Roman Empire or from Rome, which remained only a city.

3:10= This is a proof . His roots to greek - trachians, but never to "romanians" .THEY ADOPTED HIM, HIS NAME TO THEY OWN, TO BE PART OF THE GREEK - TRACIANS, WITHIN TO THE RACE ! BUT RACE IS DIFFERENT FROM RELIGION, AND BELIVINGS, A CLEAR PROOF OF DIFFERENCES . Etc...

About everything is "legend" . Thank you tough !
We don't know either who the Dacians really were . Thracians or some mix with Sarmatians . Thracians did not believe in reincarnation, so Dacian faith might be of Asian, Iranian origin - thus the connection with Sarmatians .
