Kite Aerial Photography KAP more lessons learned

KAP is a rewarding way to gain some potentially unique aerial photos at almost nil cost if able to make the parts required. I am still at kindergarten level in learning the lessons needed for a great shot.
My very basic rig is homemade and my camera ( an older Canon Powershot ) was past on to me as a gift.. I have a few homemade kites that I am continuing to experiment with.
I hope my sharing of experiences will encourage someone else to do better.

Location: St Clair beach, Dunedin, New Zealand.

Thanks for sharing these tips in a nice calm but informative video. I'm very new to KAP so am very grateful to all of you who are sharing your knowledge online. Best wishes.

Carl, thanks for the instruction and wonderful scenic shots. Your coast is similar to the California Big Sur ( Big South) area. Nice work!

Great tips & I too think the Trilobite wouldn't be a very good KAP kite. It's a show kite, not really a lifter. I haven't capped since the old days of 35mm Film & Photo-Lab or darkroom fun! I plan on getting a decent camera & getting back into it now I'm not firefighting anymore. It gives me so much more time. LoL

That camera takes a nice photo, Carl, when you get it in the right spot. I agree the Trilobite is not an ideal KAP kite, as it flies at too low an angle and isn't as steady as you really need. You do have a lot of kites that could do the job better, so we're sure to see some great shots coming up.

With the explosion of drone photography it's good to see KAP is alive and well. Just curious how do you remote activate the shutter? My new camera allows me remote control via WiFi - but haven't yet tested the range.
