In Turkey, there is a world of difference between a Tanbur and the saz or baglama. You can find similar instruments in Turkic nations. For those who say it's Iranian, I would say Iran is not homogeneous. It has a massive Azeri Turkish population.

This is called: "Divān" in Iran as it's known as: "Bāqlāmā" in Turkey which has seven strings and quarter notes in both countries.
But "Tanbour" is a three string instrument without quarter notes in Iran.

Well the thing is that "tambur" is a Persian loan word thats taken from middle Turkish "dambırtı" or "dambıra". Which is an onomatopoeia. We know that there is also an older Turkic enstrument called "dombra", a long necked lute instrument. Yeah, no idea where I'm going with all this.

I'm from Turkey but born in Sweden and I never ever thought I'd see a Swede play saz. Awesome work man

Love the Saz. Any particular artists or albums you might recommend?

Çetin Akdeniz is quite amazing. Although I think he plays short neck saz.

Every instrument has its own spirit; it must be played in harmony with it, using its own technique.

As a Turkish person, I can say that you nailed the demonstration 🫶🏻 however I feel like I should make a slight correction: saz and bağlama are not actually synonyms. Saz is the Turkish version of the word lute and bağlama is the name of the instrument. Thanks for showcasing the instrument on your channel though 💕
