Running the M249 with a magazine instead of a belt

Everyone always said you could not run the 249 with a mag. Here proves it runs great.

I think it's the age and how well maintained the weapons were. No mags work with a lot of Marine M249s, and you must push the charging handle forward after every shot.

Okay so if you run out of belts for it, you can switch to using mags and itll still work, right? Can you do it vice versa and itll work fine as long as you're not using both at the same time? I thought the mag slot (sorry for poor terminology) was infamously unreliable?

Alright, I see a lot of folks tapping magazines before sticking them into a rifle. What's up with that? Reseating the spring?

i've heard the mags feed porly at some point? i dont know :S aaaand kinda useless to have mags when you still have to open the gun to put in and out mags xD

It is a very awakward rifle if you feed it with magazine. Heavy and slow reload also occational malfunction. In addition to that it is full auto only.
