These history videos with simple map drawing are more effective in teaching than all the high transition edited ones that other channels attempt. Love khan academy.

Alexander destroyed Persepolis to avenge the burning of the Acropolis by Persia years earlier.

Your ancestors came to Macedonia and the rest of Hellas [Greece] and did us great harm, though we had done them no prior injury. I have been appointed leader of the Greeks, and wanting to punish the Persians I have come to Asia, which I took from you.
Anabasis Alexandri II, 14, 4.

Alexander points out the Pan-Hellenic character of his campaign

Antipater and Parmenion advised him to produce an heir first and then to turn his hand to so ambitious an enterprise, but Alexander was eager for action and opposed to any postponement, and spoke against them. It would be a disgrace, he pointed out, for one who had been appointed by Greece to command the war, and who had inherited his father’s invincible forces, to sit at home celebrating a marriage and awaiting the birth of children.

my ancestors actually fought against Alexander in Gaugamela on the side of Persia (probably forced by Persia, as they were probably a tributary state at that point)

It was sad that the Pashtuns pushed Alexander the Great so harshly he had to go around the strong Persian warriors just to kill the Persian king.

HE WANTED TO REACH THE FAR EAST OCEAN WHICH IS THE PACIFIC, AND THEN GO FOR WEST EUROPE TO THE ATLANTIC OCEAN .
UNFORTUNATELLY, HIS GREEK SOLDIERS COULD FOLLOW AFTER NORTH INDIA .
ONLY DEATH STOPED HIM FROM CONCORING WEST EUROPE 200 YEARS BEFORE ROMANS DID.
WE REALISED THE GREEK DREAM OF BREAKING FREE FROM PERSIAN THREATS SINCE 600 BC.
