I bought an REI Salsa drop bar gravel bike during the pandemic. Hated it. After multiple handlebar configurations, found the flattish bar I like. Love it.

The ribbing about 90's mtb's is fully warranted but.... These things have a modern/casual style that 90's mtb just cannot touch. Plus the reliability & performance of (for example) hydro disk brakes. Larger wheels....

I might have chosen a flat bar gravel bike because i love the concept, but not the curly bars & brifters, & there's a price premium as soon as they write "gravel" on anything!

Nice look at some options if i decide to invest big in a new bike one day.... Thanks!

0:07 and 0:16 The only gripe I have with my Specialized Sirrus is the 40c tire size limit... otherwise it's very well designed with comfortable and compliant geometry along with a carbon fork and handlebar. I would much prefer 54c for rooty and rocky singletrack riding especially with wet autumn leaves carpeting the trails.

What the h is a gravel bike ? I'm born early 80s, it's like gen Z just discovered non asphalted roads were a thing you can ride a bicycle on... Isn't this basically a hardtail MTB or so called "90s" MTB ? Just an 80s baby asking

A gravel bike is an off-road worthy road bike. There is no such thing as "flatbar gravel". It's either a hybrid/trekking bike or an MTB with no suspension. On the other hand, most important is that you enjoy your riding, no matter what you and your bike identify as.
