LIVE: Biden Quits US Presidential Race, Backs Kamala Harris as Nominee | Vantage with Palki Sharma

US President Joe Biden has dropped out the 2024 presidential race after resisting calls to step aside for the past three weeks. Biden has backed Vice President Kamala Harris for the Democratic Party's nomination for President. In his post on X, President Biden said that his decision is in "best interest of his party and the country". Right after the announcement, donations started pouring in for Harris and a number of Democrats are already backing her. However, VP Harris is yet to officially secure the Democratic Party's nomination at the Democratic Convention, which is scheduled for August 19.

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump slammed Biden for ending his re-election campaign and even took a jibe at VP Kamala Harris. Trump said, "Harris would be easier to beat than Biden." Biden's late exit from the 2024 presidential race poses a big challenge to the Democrats, especially at a time when Trump has taken the lead in the US polls.
