I actually studied electronics technology in VoTech and Trade School, but was out of the industry for the past 20 years, this was a great refresher course for me. It all came back to me, thanks for posting.

This video has given me more information and explanation than 6 hours on google and other youtube videos. I bought a set of relays from Amazon that did not state they were 5 pins so I've been trying to see if there's any way to avoid a return and use them as an SPST. Thank you for the video, it has helped tremendously.

No fluff, straight to the point, and a great explanation.

One thing I would like to see on your video is to advise viewers to mount this relays with the mounting tab on top. Most imported relays are not water tight and can short out of fail with ease if mounted in any other direction. Great video and excellent explanation. 👍

This is a great explanation for how this is. Honestly as an electrical guy this will be very helpful.

Honestly it's the best explanation of 5 and 4 pin relays ever. I however I have many cut off shirts lol.

This is the 5th post I've seen you demonstrated the information clearly simple ! The others were a waste of time !!

I’ve watched about 100 videos on relays. After watching both this one and the fist one you did on the 4 pin where you turn on the a/c i do not need to watch another. Thanks!

Best explanation of a relay I have found.

Good video. I usually use 5 pins even though I know I don’t need to. I honestly barely can find a decent 4 pin from a reputable brand. It never hurts to have the 5th pin so I just use them 99% of the time.

Actually just did a project using the rare 87A. I have a daytime running light on my truck that is powered by an ignition circuit. Interrupted it with a 5 pin relay triggered by the parking brake ground. Parking brake to 85, ign to 86, ign to 87A, 30 to DRL. pull brake, DRL shuts off when the relay switches to 87. Works like a champ.

When I want a short sleeve shirt, I buy TWO short sleeve shirts.
I put the first one on and tear it off like Hulkamania Running Wild. Then I put the second one on.
Good vid!! Very well done.
Stay gold.

Great video man, seriously. The drawings make is all click for us visual learners. I don't need or want over the top graphics or background music, just the facts. Thank you, thank you for helping me learn something.

This was what I have been looking for. I've watched so many youtube videos and they all recommended 5 pin and all I am doing is lights...so I bought 5 pin and have had the toughest time trying to figure out what the darn thing does and why my switches are powered upside down...this video was perfect. The one question I do have that may be answered in the comments, but didn't see it right off the bat, was what do I do with the extra wire now? Do I leave it? do I cut it? Do I cap it? Appreciate your guidance. Thanks again for a great video!!

I have been around the automotive repair world for quite some time and I have attended numerous training events.

This is by far and hands down the simplest, most understandable and direct explanation of the relay that I have ever heard!

Thank you for posting!!!!
