Ev West Conversion 71 VW Super Beetle Engine Removal for Electric Conversion

Finally getting started on the electric conversion! Today removed the engine as well as many of the leftover air conditioning parts...(hoses, receiver/drier, condenser), figured I needed to remove excess weight as well as make the conversion look tidy and professional. Fuel tank is out and front pan is extremely clean, should make a nice platform for the front battery pack.

Nice clean Kafer and glad it will be traveling on electric power.

Hey Randy you may be better off to use an EV West light weight flywheel. No need to make your motor spin up all the extra weight of a stock flywheel. I got my conversion running last weekend and would be happy to discuss the project with you.

Hey Randy, this is such a great project. I've been working on Beetle parts to learn about an EV conversion and I'm busy building a '54 Chev truck too! Yours looks so neat!

Hey Randy! Thanks for the Videos! keep em coming please!! I'm about to start this process with a 1971 Beetle Convertible. Just a note: I asked EVWest and they do have the battery boxes for sale if you dont want to build them. Really interested in your progress!

Hey! I’m watching here! Not many VW EV conversions on YouTube, so keep up the good work. Maybe a recap - what gear you’re using, expectations all that.

I had lots of VW Bugs, they were great cars in the 60's and 70's but they are not close to safe cars by today's standards. Putting batteries in them is not the best idea. They were designed as sub 2, 000 pound cars, adding batteries - bad idea.
