Learn Fun Toe Pick Tricks in Figure Skates!! #1

Hello Skaters! Welcome Back! Today I am doing a special request video.. Denise P asked for some fun moves that can be done with the toe pics to add artistry to a skating program. Denise...I hope you enjoy these! This is the first of two videos I am doing featuring toe pick maneuvers, so practice these and come back next week for a few more toe pick tricks!

Coach Julia has been skating (first on roller and then on ice) for over 30 years. She was a competitive skater until she turned 21 when she got her first contract as a professional show skater. Julia has been a figure skating coach for 16 years, is a USFS Gold Medalist in Moves in the Field, and an ISI Gold Level certified judge. She has held positions as the Skating Director of the largest skating program in the United States, as well as Head Coach at two different skating clubs. Julia has now turned her skills towards a larger audience and is bringing her love and knowledge of skating to all of you!

The ballet turn is the Chaines Turn. It's done quickly for flow & usually on point shoes but in ballet slippers too. Arms are in first position. The turn is done on a diagonal & is very pretty!

Hi Coach Julia! I am a former competitive skater in my youth (20 years ago) and got back to skating a few months ago. While my muscle memory is coming back, I’m finding it hard to do just to hold an edge on a big hockey circle, I can hold my edges fine on tight circles but my body just wants to turn me into or away from the circle no matter how much I hold my arms and core. Any tips? I love your videos they’re so helpful! My coach here in nj is Olympian Jojo Starbuck who I love but I can only do lessons once a week.

Can you also make a video on how to do an axel off ice? I am getting the rotation on mine and when I land it it's great but have absolutely horrible technique and can't progress 😔
