The Most Common Chess Mistakes: Missing Endgame Tactics

In this video, I kick off the Most Common Chess Mistakes series with a discussion of players' tendency to forget that tactics are prevalent in the endgame, that is, even with very few pieces left on the board. Through the lens of an instructive (albeit painful) example from my own chess career, I demonstrate the importance of never switching off your tactical detector, even when there are next to no pieces left!

Daniel may not be the no.1 grandmaster in the world but he is for sure my favourite chess grandmaster

Looking back on Daniel's early games, you can really appreciate how Charlie made him into the player he is today.

This kind of distilled knowledge that points at the root causes of chess skill is exactly what many other teachers are failing to bring to the audience and i'm extremely grateful to you for gifting out this kind of opportunities. Cheers, and thanks

Missing endgame tactics....

What about just missing endgame entirely because of checkmate in middle game? Happened a lot to me (victim), lol...

I gotta say Daniel, not only are you a great chess player, but you're a wonderful teacher. I started playing a couple months ago, and I think that you're probably the only person I've heard talk about chess and fully understand everything you were saying. Thanks for all you do!

I just wanted to say that I really admire your teaching skills and enthusiasm! You really seem to love to teach, and to get a rush whenever a student gets it right.
I hope to be able to afford a couple coaching sessions with you in the future! All the best!

Thank you Sensai Danya, I watched your last video before bed and woke up to this. Out of all the GMs I've watched you've helped me improve the most. My friend (1400-1500) and I play 5 game matches every few days, a few weeks ago he would defeat me usually 4 games to 1. Recently I was able to win 2 very commandingly and then draw a 3rd!

This is very true. Reminds me of one of my own games several years ago. I was black with 1570-ish ELO and my opponent was a FM (2300+). Held an equal position for more than 50 moves, just to miss a simple tactical move for him in the endgame and I lost. I think beginners or less experienced players are more prone to overlook such a moves, because in late games they lack stamina or have to deal with time trouble (because the time-management still sucks).

These videos are like bite-sized information bits and they're super easy to digest and put into practice. Can't wait for more.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us Daniel! Have you considered a video on transitioning from early to mid to endgame successfully? I usually find myself up numerous pieces, but eventually seem to blunder than away. Thanks again!

I was ready for some advanced stuff I would pretend to understand, but this was actually really clear cut and well presented

My endgames usually consist of bunch of semi-random pre moves because I have last 3 seconds on the clock. #sub1000gang

I live for your videos you inspire inside of me a love for chess I never knew existed. I'm subscribed with notifications on.
I love the vids with TurboFisto, I loved this one too.
Don't overthink about content too much just upload more, not only will that satisfy fans like myself but also the YouTube algorithm will reward you for it.
I sense you like to orchestrate the content of your youtube channel in a perfect manner and do so carefully.
I softly suggest you be more free and just upload more, that way you will quickly figure out in which direction you wish to push your channel.
Much love <3

Just wanted to say thanks for your teachings Daniel. I started playing chess again because I saw you teaching Charlie and now I'm getting better every day. You're a fantastic teacher in my opinion.

you have a very elegant vocabulary. The word enterprise in that context is so good. And thanks for the great lesson!
