If you're a beginner and want to learn how to pour concrete for a basement floor, this video will show you how to pour the concrete, how to screed the concrete, how to level the concrete, and how to bull float the concrete.
I use a laser level to set my finish floor grade four inches above the sub-grade. I mark the foundation wall with a pencil and the grade stick that has a receiver on it. The receiver reads the laser beam from the laser level and tells me when I'm at the right height. I mark the bottom of the grade stick and use these marks to snap a chalk line at the finished concrete floor height. I use the chalk line during the pour to mag float my wet pads around the perimeter of the basement floor.
I make a wet pad in the middle of the floor using the laser level and grade stick to use as my floor level while I screed. The wet pad in the middle is the same level as the outside perimeter. After screeding the floor, I bull float the concrete to smoothen the surface and prepare the concrete floor for the finishing process.

I am for 🇨🇦, but lived 25 years in Portugal, and we screedded by our selves, and we pour 400 square meters a day, that's 50cubic meters of concrete at 12 cm, and the team was 6 man, loved your video 👍

I think the business course is a great idea. There a lot of guys including myself that just don’t have the business since or the know how to run a profitable business.

I enjoy the video. I’m a new general contractor looking at building my own spec home. I’ve gotten all these estimates from concrete companies and they are just outrageous in labor so I’m looking at doing it myself. It’s been a long time since I’ve poured concrete, but this video brought back a lot. Thanks.

Abbey rakes better than a lot of guys I've had behind me over 35 years. Good job . 27 yard closed basement tomorrow..Hate them covered. from Cleve, Ohio....Stay warm.

It sounds like a fantastic, one-of-a-kind business starting course that you will be offering. Most business management trade courses seem to try to bore a person to death with workmen's comp, liability, payrolls, bonding, subbing, marketing, and on and on but neglect the art of the trade as in how to maximize the sweet spot of honest profit and minimize costly mistakes which can bury you. Your 40 years experience rolled into all that would be amazing.

Great videos. I’ve “assisted ” in many concrete pours just like this in Eastern Mass for a local residential Mason before heading into Boston Union work. We’d pour, screed and finish just like you. Must be a New England thing.... I was always the “edge” man while on a burn finish or all mag and steel. Very satisfying. Throw the headphones on and make your way around.

I was always taught to put stakes with nails at appropriate level for screeting. Think I’ll change to this method.

I noticed you didnt have mesh or rebar in that pour do you not do that for floors and how do you prevent cracking and heaving of the floor

Great video as always Mike! We are rained out today, but plenty of "office" stuff to do. I'm looking forward to the business course, I've been running my own since '97, but I feel I can still learn plenty from you, and still under bid jobs occasionally.

I’d be interested in the course. I’m currently working for myself on the side with a license but I’m definitely interested going all in.

I would love to know what mil thickness of plastic to put under that foam sheeting and what thickness and type of foam sheeting is this? Please and thank you. We are putting a basement under our home and are planning the basement pour next summer.
