My baby to naps for 2-3 hour stretches

Показать описание
It is a common myth that babies need to be trained to sleep in bright, noisy environments. Babies, just like us adults, sleep best in dark, quiet spaces. If a baby is tired enough, they will fall asleep anywhere and don’t need to be “trained” to do so. Setting up an optimal sleep environment helps babies get the rest they need.
Baby Maddie is almost 6 months old now and she grew out of the cat napping phase at around 3 months old. I know that every baby is different and we’re probably blessed to have a good sleeper but I think that putting these practices in place have helped improve Maddie’s sleep.
1️⃣ Melatonin is a sleep-inducing hormone that can only be produced in the dark and having any light on at bedtime can make it difficult for a baby to fall asleep. During the day even a little strip of light in the room can cause distractions and make it difficult for a baby to resettle during naps.
2️⃣ White noise is great at creating a sound bridge between sleep cycles. Daytime household sounds are also quite different from night sounds and white noise can effectively mask these noises to create a consistent soundtrack. This will allow your baby to drift back to sleep when stirring between sleep cycles.
3️⃣ I put my baby to sleep in her bed while she’s awake so that she learns that it is a safe place to fall asleep. When she wakes up in between sleep cycles she knows exactly where she is and would fall back asleep. If a baby relies on rocking, feeding, or being held to sleep, they may struggle when those things aren’t available.
