The solutions to these holiday problems:
1. Don't wrap your gifts with excess paper
2. Learn to eat vegetarian meals (meat sucks in its own way), i.e. quit it with the meat!
3. Who the hell says you _must_ eat candy canes?

I have started wrapping gifts in newspaper, aka yesterday's news, as I just find it insane that we expend all those resources to make brightly coloured paper that's just going to be ripped to shreds, and it's not just the trees, what about that oil used to make the inks used to print the paper and then transport it around. Old nespapers and mailers do just as good a job at hiding the something that somebody gave to someone

When I think about the turkey and meat (my family has prime rib for Christmas) eaten during the holidays, it really makes me nervous for our environment. I know I've already decided to limit my beef intake as a New Year's resolution.

the wraping paper one totally shocked me!
that's such a bad thing!
I'm just going to save oold newspapers and wrap gifts in that from now on if that's ok

Not to mention the amount of gasoline used to transport the turkeys (and other meats), and the plastics and other wrappings used in their packaging..._and_ the turkeys' waste products affecting the environment (oh boy, another tree-hugger's rambling)

But It's true...

Good thing all that turkey piss is recycled back to drinking water ... or is it? ^_'

Wrapping paper (what, more rambling?) is also a result of holiday commercialism, for wrapping paper goes straight to the garbage (unless you reuse/recycle).

People eat turkey on Christmas? I always have Christmas ham. Although my fiance and i are going to take a leaf out of the Jewish tradition and do beef brisket next year.

I also save any gift bags and nice foil wrapping paper. I haven't bought wrapping paper in 10 years.

I'm Canadian, and I'm sure we'd let Americans feast on our flesh for Thanksgiving dinner if they need to. We're just THAT nice.

I'm a little stringy, though.

Yeah but eating 30 million people wouldn't put a dent in the population.

Merry Christmas fellow random science fact lovers.

I don't think eating Canadians would even put a dent in the population, considering we have a smaller population than the entire state of California.

Poor Canada. They won't even know what hit them.
