EVERY Super Weapon in Star Wars Explained [Legends + Canon]

Star Wars is known for it's crazy super weapons, with the Death Star being one of the most iconic designs in all of Sci-Fi. On the big screen we have seen the death star 1 and 2 as well as the super hyped up death star, Star Killer Base in the new trilogy. When exploring legend, we find that these were not the first super weapons in the galaxy, nor were they close to being the most powerful. This video will explore every single Star Wars super weapon from both legends and canon. This will be one of my longer videos so as usual, grab and drink and a snack before we begin. I’ve roughly ordered this list from least to most powerful, so make sure to stick around until the end to find out about the most powerful superweapon, and spoilers, you’ve probably never even heard of it.

And before we begin, a quick reminder. I’ll be annoucning the VF Sabers lightsaber giveaway winner later on in the video. I’ll also be explaining the rules of the next lightsaber giveaway. This time we’ll be giving away my favourite saber, the revanchist. Anyway, back to the video.

Electro-proton bomb

The electro-proton bomb, created by Republic engineers, essentially acted as a massive EMP grenade. It was meant to be dropped from bombers into the frontlines, releasing a powerful electromagnetic pulse shock wave capable of crippling or eliminating any type of droid or vehicle within the explosion radius. When the Confederacy of Independent Systems sent a huge invading force to Malastare to capture its fuel deposits, Supreme Chancellor Palpatine approved the deployment of the electro-proton bomb. Doctor Sionver Boll told everyone gathered that the weapon would only impact droids and would not damage clone troops or any other biological creatures. To destroy the huge army of battle droids that had invaded their homeworld, the local Dugs consented to the choice. Although the bomb was effective in eradicating the Separatist menace, Doge Nakha Urus was concerned that it would have a negative impact on the delicate balance of Malastare's ecology. As most of you will already know, this device had an unforeseen consequence. It awoke one of the ancient Zillo Beasts that were long believed to be extinct, although that's a story for another day.

Null Cannon

A similar technology was developed thousands of years before the Clone Wars during the Old Republic Cold War era. Known as Null Cannons, they worked by launching energy bursts that rendered hostile technology, like as starships, entirely inoperable. A prototype was present among the Republic Navy fleet on Hoth before it crashed during the battle against the Sith Empire.

Metal-Crystal Phase Shifter

Another superweapon that was developed to disrupt machinery and droids was the Metal Crystal Phase Shifter. Developed within the secret imperial superweapons facility within the Maw cluster of blackholes, this weapon could turn any metal into crystaline powder. When a ship or droid entered its disruptive shield, large cracks would appear and eventually the whole structure would disintegrate. This weapon was able to bypass shield, allowing it to quite easily destroy a large star destroyer with very little effort.

However, like many of the other Maw superweapons we will discuss later on in this video it never got past the prototype stage. The prototype was destroyed in the battle of the Maw, preventing it from falling into the hands of the Imperial Remenant. However, this technology was eventually integrated into the Maw irregular fleet and helped the Jedi defeat the newly turned Jacen Solo during the second Battle of Fondor.

Malevolence

A similar, but more powerful weapon was created during the Clone Wars. Known as the Malevolence, this flagship was a modified Subjugator class heavy cruiser. It was equipped with two twin ion pulse guns, which Once fired, the resulting wave would travel long distances and cripple any starship that it met with. Following the immobilisation of a ship by ion guns, about 500 turbolasers were unleashed and utterly destroyed the opposing cruiser. [6] The vessel's power plant ran on waste heat and engine byproducts. The system needed a massive hull and had to frequently discharge its accumulated energy, which was adopted by the ion cannons.

This massive heavy cruiser served as Grievouses flagship at the beginning of the clone Wars. However, after Anakin Skywalker tampered with the ships navicomputer, the entire ship crashed into the dead moon of Antar.

In the words of Darth Vader: don’t be too proud of this technological terror you’ve constructed, the ability to destroy a planet is insignificant next to the power of the force

Pretty excellent deep dive. I’m very new to the Universe, so breakdowns like yours are very helpful. Thank you, and nice work.

Quintessens, Star Wars stole that from Transformers. Hasbro must have loved that one.

Um, the Malevolence wasn’t a “modified” subjugator class, all the subjugator’s were supposed to be equipped with dual ion pulse generators.

The moment he said that the superweapons were ranked from least to most powerful, I knew that the shawken device would be at the bottom of the list

Fun Fact; Centerpoint station was used to create the Maw, a cluster of BLACK HOLES all just to contain Abeloth the Mother

Hey VF, I'm planning on ordering my first saber from your website within the month. I'm going for 'The Ronin' as a starter blade with Smooth Swing and then if I like the quality (not questioning your craftsmanship at all) I'll definitely be using your sight for fine additions to my collection. I love the look of 'The Cyber Revanchist'. Keep up the good videos I love your content dude ❤

Am I the only one who notices that R2D2 destroyed the Galaxy Gun in a manner similar to the Malevolence?

By basically reprogramming a navi-computer to destroy the offending superweapon. R2D2 is a badass.
