I grew up on Simon and Garfunkels original performance, so when I saw that there was a remake, a cover by a metal band, I had absolutely no interest in listening to it. How could anybody improve on the original artist? But I read a few comments under some of the videos, and it convinced me to give it a try. I was blown away! I still love the original, but it’s like comparing, I don’t know, a lullaby to a symphony maybe. S&G version is a gentle warning & Disturbed is more like an angry demand that we pay attention to the warning. Goosebumps, indeed.

Saw a reaction content creator who loved Disturbed and for whatever reason always skipped this song on his CD he played in his vehicle. For years he skipped it. When he played it for the first time he cried. Literally cried he missed out on this song for that many years.

Paul Simon wrote this song for David Braiman ...he just didn't know it at the time.

I was a HUGE fan of the original "Sounds of Silence" written by Paul Simon and released by Simon and Garfunkel in 1965. My little folk band (which never did have a name, by the way, other than "Linda and Vicki's Band") used to play and sing THAT version all the time, and I still love it. I wasn't happy when the name was altered to "Sound of Silence." (grrr)

I heard about Disturbed's version when it first came out in 2015, but it wasn't until 2017 that I finally said, "OK...I'll listen, but I doubt if I'll like it!" I didn't just "like it, " I fell in love with it! These days, I will listen to anything that pops up saying that it's sung by David Draiman. His voice and presentations are just wonderful.

There's another version (patterned on the original), also, that I think you would love to react to -- performed by Peter Hollens and Tim Foust. It's a real "WOW!" I'll let you discover why I said that, on your own. 😀

My all-time favorite version, though, is Dan Vasc's second go at it. I have your cousin's (I'm sure I saw his name, somewhere...on Patreon, I think...?...but I can't remember it off-hand) reaction to Dan singing the Disturbed version of this song, waiting, next-in-line.
