Are you prepared to hold them when their price falls by half? Are you prepared to hold them when the price doubles? People can buy a car, and accept they have a car, not money. They can do that with a house or a restaurant. But because the stockmarket quotes live prices all the time they convince themselves that they have a savings account, rather than that they own a fractional share of a business. If you aren't selling the price that they will give you right now isn't relevant.
