Growth stages of Catasetum Orchids

Catasetum orchids gained quite a bit of popularity over the past years and rightfully so, they are beautiful and majestic. let's learn how they growth throughout the year.

Autumn is the season when many of them will bloom. My Cycnodes Wine Delight is always in bloom in autumn, others might be a little late to the party. In autumn usually the pseudobulbs have matured.

As winter comes the leaves will start to yellow and drop one by one, this is normal as this orchid is deciduous. It is preparing for its dormancy. The dormancy varies from one species or variety to another but it usually happens in winter.

Summer is the growth season, the new pseudobulbs mature and require lots of water and fertilizer!

And we're back to autumn again :)

That is about the prettiest Catasetum I've seen. To me, the leaves and bulbs are more appealing than the flowers of most species I've come across.
