American woman, in my 60s. Have made 3 solo trips to Japan. Easy peasy.

I just returned a week ago from a 19 day solo trip to Japan. I felt safe. The Japanese people were wonderful- welcoming, caring, and friendly.

It's safer than most countries, but it's not "absolutely" safe...no country is

Solo travelling is the best. It forces you to interact more with new people, instead of travelling with girlfriend/boyfriend or friend, where you tend to keep to each others company more. I've done most my travelling with others but look forward to more solo travel in the future. Definitely Japan is one of the safest places to do so.

I’ve been rolling the idea of traveling to Japan around in my brain for years and I’d even started learning Japanese over a year ago, but I’d been so nervous about traveling alone. Seeing this video has really given me the push I needed to finally make those plans! Thank you for this!

I went on my own solo trip to Japan back in December 2023. It was amazing and it was my first time going on a solo trip abroad. I was there for 10 days, and thanks to the Shinkansen, I visited both the Kansai and Kanto regions.

My personal advice for solo travel in Tokyo: there's a ton of cults roaming around, so be a little careful if an overly friendly English speaking Japanese person approach you. Also, don't go drinking alone. Especially at "snack" bars. I got scammed. Drugged me then called the cops and claimed I trespassed. I had to pay a few thousand dollars for them to drop the charges.

This was such an exciting video. You captured the enthusiasm of these people so well. You always ask the questions that we want to hear and are so kind and respectful. I loved your channel - thank you for all your hard work to share your beautiful country with us.

I think the parts where people were saying that we should research about the country first and go with the flow can apply for anywhere you go. That's what I did when I first traveled abroad by myself in Italy and it helped me a lot especially since I didn't know how to speak their language ( just some words). If I go to Japan I'd definitely do my research especially if I want to visit unique places. Great interview!

I pushed my friend to go to Japan solo. She doesn’t speak any Japanese or English and yet she managed to survive three times and spend time nicely, attended some gigs of our favorite musicians. Google translate rules!
She isn’t good at entertaining herself and our way of traveling is different (like I would have experienced 10 times more than she did but it was her choice) but it’s absolutely safe and possible. It is the only foreign country she’s ever visited

I did 2 weeks in Japan in February of this year, Tokyo and Kyoto. I am from the UK and have visited several European counties and Australia. Japan felt like the safest country I've ever visited. Not once did I see or hear any aggravation or antisocial behaviour. At no point did I feel unsafe or uneasy, including walking around some of the allegedly notorious areas in Tokyo. I'm a 40 year old guy but i remember seeing many women walking alone at night unbothered and at ease.
