WiFi Wireless Security Tutorial - 11 - Using Pyrit to Speed Up Password Recovery

Interesting concept, of creating a Pyrit database to pre-compute passphrases. However, it's best to have a graphics driver to run this from a GPU faster, in order to make it compute the passphrases at a higher speed. The reason being is because Pyrit has to go through the Batch process before the cracking process, and out of both, the entire attack can only go as fast as the weakest link. It doesn't matter if it's going at 10, 000, 000, 000 passwords a second; it won't matter if the Batch process only goes at 3, 500/s. Although, it still does speed it up quite a bit though.

FYI, pressing Ctrl + L will clear your screen and leave anything you currently have entered in the command line there. Faster than typing "clear". Unless that's your thing then by all means. :)

I know the video is kinda old but I'll comment anyway
I was creating a dictionary for this purpose with combinations between 8 and 10 numeric characters and the output was 112 GIGABYTES, so, this method isn't actually worthy or the best one... Depends too much on the security you face. Maybe if you try 8 numeric characters only you may be able to get lucky and find a network with this lack of security

If I later add a second dictionary (only 50 new words) to my Pyrit database, will I have to re-run "pyrit batch""?
Will it have to recompute the entire words... or only the 50 new ones?

If I later add a second essid to the Pyrit database will I have to recompute the entire database again?
Or only the 1 new essid text?

Hi there from bonnie Scotland. Another great tutorial many thanks. One thing. Once you have captured the handshake can you just switch lappy off then go home and run the pyrit programme ? Or do you need have the programme run against the wifi? If that makes sense lol. Cheers

so I wanted to try something with my own router to see if it would work, and that was adding a symbol to the ssid and the symbol I used was [word word word & word] (three words the "&" and then one more word) and I cant seem to add it to the database running pyrit -e [word word word & word] create_essid

I get a [word]: command not found.

Now that would be the last word of the four words after the symbol that it thinks is a command. How would I get around this?

Bucky! I need your help. I installed Kali in vm ware, but i can't see my wireless adapter. I even try using usb wireless adapter, still nothing. How I need to confgure network in vm ware to make it work? Thanks a lot

pyrit batch will take *days* if you try use it with a 40GB wordlist!
