I get your point of view, bro But that’s why they have a five year lease to buy option so if you end up staying longer than five years, which most homeowners don’t you can buy the system just like you would
If you leased a car. Option to buy every PPA has this.

Been leasing with Sunrun sine 2021. We have a fixed lease payment. Has not, will not change in price. All should do their homework to see what option's work. Fo us, leasing with Sunrun made sense.

I installed our system (9K watts) with a local solar contractor 23 years ago. The first set of inverters failed at the 11 year mark. I replaced them with refurbished units which worked fin until I added a Tesla Powerwall+ in 2023. I'v added some panels along the way & had a couple of the connectors on the original panels fail. I have done all of the maintenance over the years. The cost of the system (less credits & rebates) was "paid for" from the lower electricity bills in 7 years (under NEM 1). I am a proponent of purchasing, not leasing (leasing was not an option when we built our system). Total out of pocket maintenance costs actually added a year to the "break even" point.

I wish I knew this before I signed my agreement with Sunrun in May 2023. Everything their sales rep told me turned out to be just lies. I hate Sunrun with all my heart.

I have Sunrun… Solar, Tesla Powerwall 3, and SPAN for the past year and it’s been an AMAZING ride. I’m completely energy independent of the grid and in COMPLETE control of the energy that my home is now producing and I’m able to store it when the sun sets and have enough battery capacity just in case there’s a power outage (Which I had for 12hrs a few weeks ago). Yes- I’m on a PPA, but not only is my price 20% lower than my highest bill, but my utility company would NEVER offer me this type of high-end tech in my home with a 25yr warranty on them. Even IF I end up paying slightly more at the end (Which I wont cuz the price of my utility will always outpace my yearly 2.9% increase) I’ll be happy with the peace of mind, control, security, and the idea of having my own infrastructure on my home is a flex instead of relying on outside parties to provide my family with energy. Nice try, Jack! 😅

You keep villianizing PPA’s, but if someone will not buy, and a PPA is saving them 50% compared to PG&E for example that is a smart financial decision. If you’re going to villainize anyone, it’s the utility (monopolies) that should get that flack.

lol, you’re acting like the utilities aren’t a scam. You’re on a never ending lease for your power, with insane time of use rates. That they can change whenever they want because the invested owned utilities have a monopoly and lobby against everything. Not to mention there have been more and more power outages…

Also Sunrun is now offering a FLEX pay lease, that allows you to install the max amount of solar panels on your roof, and you only pay for the power you consume from the panels. While the excess still goes back to the grid for credits in your name, and also gives you more available power for the virtual power plants. Adding 3 Tesla powerwalls and 150% offset, you can get $600-$800 back per year from your powerwalls, helping pay the lease.

Always know what you’re paying the utilities per kWh compared to a ppa rate per kWh. Salesman prey on ignorant people and don’t disclose that ps after 5 years you only have a 4 month window of time to pay for the system at fair market value

The CPUC have approved a 48% rate increase in 2028… by 2027 edition rates are going to double. That’s the scam.
