Maybe Fraxis isn't going to fly you to their studio and invite you to fancy dinners for a new release but you'll alwawys be my Civilization king Marbz. Thanks for the heads up. I stopped caring about this game for now but still curious about the updates. Looks like we may have a playable Civ game one year from now on.

Civ VII is an example of the modern trend of releasing AAA games as early access, but without the label.

Wow, this really goes to show how uncooked this game was on release. Fully agree this is completely unacceptable.

We proudly present:
Civilization beyond March.

And "Additional UI improvements" should be "Adding UI to the game".

Quick movement as an improvement wow this game was so unfinished

Saw some videos about the roadmap, but only clicked on this one. Marbs is my goto source of intelligent Civ commentary. He treats his viewers as intelligent adults, not a default thing on the internet.

I'm glad I sat on Civ 7. The initial wave of FOMO was tough, but the longer it has gone the more glaring it's issues have become. The more I've had time to think and analyze and notice the weird core design choices. My most recent thing I sat and thought about is how weird it is that one of my favorite areas of history the Middle Ages has basically been turned into a foot note in favor of Colonialism. Instead of an age filled with interesting religion and religious conflict like the crusades, we sail the ocean blue in search of distant lands... in 400AD. Never mind the fact that you know America wouldn't be colonized for like over another 1100 years. The techs are there like Heraldry, but it again just feels like a glossed over footnote, it's just a tech that is on the way to Shipbuilding so you can get your treasure fleets. Then I think about the civilizations of the Exploration Age and only 3 makes sense for that "Exploration" time period: Spain and 2 Civs that were native to the new world... All the others feel like they would fit a Medieval era so much more like the Normans. I don't know how else to describe it then a very American decision, it's like the way we were taught history in American Schools. A lot of European history is just massively glossed over basically to get to the "important parts" where some colonials got mad their tea was too expensive. Then we only care about Europe when the World Wars kick up. It's that same sort've vibe.

"Looking ahead" aka things that should have been in the game to begin with and every other Civ had on release.
Firaxis did a fantastic job of killing all the momentum this game should have had by pushing it out way to early.
And when those updates come out most people will have already moved on. The whole thing just seems so shortsighted.

I would have paid to hear Marbz rant the minute he found out quick movement was a month away lol.

Some of these “updates” should have been in the base game since the beginning. You were right on this game being sold in an unfinished state. I’m definitely waiting till a big price drop to get this game and that’s a big bummer . Guess I’m back to civ 5-6 .

I've said it before but I'll say it again: if Civ 7 had released when it did but just in early access with a planned full release in late 2025, all of this would be fine. It's the gall of them telling us that it was "finished". I'd bet a year's salary that not one of Civ devs actually felt in their heart that that game was feature complete when it actually released.

I usually buy all my games after 1 year from release. You usually get it on discount and large/most bugs are fixed.

Yet again Marbz with the best takes on Civ VII. It's frankly unacceptable and massively disappointing to release the game so half-baked. These "balances" and "improvements" should have all been launch features. It seems silly but waiting until March for the ability to rename cities? No tech queue? These aren't difficult to do.

Thanks for the overview Marbs. I like the game quite a lot, but it is a really half-baked game. I’ve played three games but I’m gonna take a break until a few more patches.

What really surprised me was that Civ 7 couldn't rename cities at release after all the flack they got for not being to rename cites when Civ 6 was released. They had to patch it in later.

Yeah, those things should have been in the game since launch

It’s the typical trend in modern gaming to release half baked titles in early access without being labelled as such.
