Starting a Nonprofit: What About Staff?

Are you starting a nonprofit and trying to figure out you will transition to paid staff? I took my time in this video sharing some of the important considerations for hiring staff and the key differences between your nonprofit board of directors and staff. There are important things you should know before you begin to add people to your payroll and I can 3 major areas.

In this video, I cover the role of the Chief Executive Officer and the concept of the working board so you can understand what it means for your organization to have staff. I hope this helps!

Question: when calculating term dates for your board, do u count the first year if they all started the same year ?

Thank you for you videos! You hit right into the point and the signal/noise ratio is so much higher than anything else I could find on the internet on the subject :)

In one of the videos (can't find exact moment, maybe it's in this video) you mentioned the importance of making people feel that it's not "your organization" but "their organization" too. So they don't stay passive supporters, but feel commitment and responsibility and active engage with it. My question – do you have videos that explore this exact moment deeper? Or any suggestions on how to avoid this mistake or how to help transition people from "it's someone's else org which I support" to "it's my org also and I want to spend time to help its mission". Maybe some good books or articles on this?
