Welcome to the YouTube video channel for my new book “Seed Of Israel: DNA Guide To Tracing Your Jewish Ancestry” available now on Amazon in eBook and paperback versions. Links to order your copy are below and be sure to hit the subscribe button for more videos like this.

In this video I talk about my haplogroups. In a previous video I discussed my autosomal DNA results from many different admixture calculators. What are the Y-DNA and mtDNA results for someone such as myself who is a fully Ashkenazi Jew? Then I’m going to attempt to answer why Ashkenazi Jews generally plot on or near the Greek island of Crete in PCA.

You're 100% correct about why Ashkenazi Jews cluster near Crete and Sicilians, it's almost indisputable at this point. Both Sicilians and Cretans have some degree of Northern or Eastern European ancestry as well as some amount of West Asian ancestry. Sicilians share a small amount of North African that is also present in Ashkenazim but absent from Cretans. In reality, Sicilians plot near Greek islanders in the East Mediterranean as well, and Ashkenazim are just as likely to get Sicilians as close autosomal matches as they are to get Cretans. The reason why they might cluster near Crete at times is because both people have small amounts of East European ancestry, which Sicilians lack. This pulls Ashkenazim toward Greece and why they end up in Crete.

It's important to note that Greek islanders and Sicilians both have significantly more Greco-Roman ancestry than Ashkenazim and significantly less Levantine ancestry. Cretans also seem to have substantial ancient Anatolian ancestry.

First off, thanks for your informative videos. Keep them coming!! I find the Crete connection. fascinating. Do you know if they have some idea of when the Cretan DNA was introduced? From the medieval times? From the time of Joshua when Tyre and Dora became part of Israel( tribe of Asher)?I'm sure there was some Cretan DNA floating around the Levant back then, seeing how the Phoenicians had been in contact with and heavily traded with, the Minoans for millennia. We know the Myceneans were in the Levant after the bronze age collapse. Who knows, maybe there was a Minoan presence in the Levant that had settled there after Crete's numerous disasters. Some historians think that there was a large Phoenician presence in Crete and Santorini during their peak period. After numerous earthquakes, volcano eruptions, tidal waves and Mycenean threats there was a mass exodus back to the Levant. If that's true I'm sure there were many Minoans that wanted to get the hell out of Dodge and wound up in Byblos, Sidon, Tyre, Cyprus and maybe Egypt. We do know that either Cretans or
Crete trained artists were painting Frescos in Egypt around the time things went down hill for the Minoans in Crete. To be honest I know just enough to be really stupid😁

Well at least you was brave enough to do both y DNA and mtdna information to share with people. Many people just get scared stick with autosomal DNA.

Very interesting. My Y-DNA is J-L70 (under J2) and my Mt-DNA is HV1b2 (under HV1).

I had that in mind before you mentioned it at approx 7:50.

My interpretation of the Ashkenazi mtDNA Haplogroup Frequencies indicates that the (K) haplogroup is represented with the color green and that the (K) haplogroup is of the Ashkenazi Jews. Is this correct?

I am J-Z40772 under L70. The branch that parallels mine is Ashkenazi, J-FGC21085. I am not Jewish.

My Halpogroup is K1a1b1a.... but according to 23andMe I have no Ashkenazi ancestors. Does anyone know how this is possible?

It's interesting that the Pashtuns who claim patrilineal ancestry back to King Saul have Y-DNA R and Q (fairly upstream subclades). Perhaps there is much more to the story of the connection between Y-DNA P (R and Q) and Israel. Basal P is only found in Philippines and there is a growing number of people who believe the ancient land of Ophir may have been the Philippines. I'm still trying to connect the dots, but the exiled Israelites may have had some connection with the Cimmerians who showed up 7 years after the largest exile event, whose bones were tested to have Y-DNA R and Q, I believe. It's commonly said that R and Q are simply central Asian haplogroups and a small percentage of them mixed in with the Jews, but what if all these mutations came from particular tribe(s)? The biggest hurdle to overcome with this theory is the dating of haplogroups, which is by no means concrete since there is a lot of speculation involved, but this theory assumes that mutations occurred more rapidly at some point in the past. This also would mean that the number of people that descend from an original Israelite origin is quite large, however, Josephus did write of an immense multitude not to be estimated in number that would have grown quite a bit obviously since that time.

My Dad looks a lot like you and has similar dna. In our family we Have a Hastings and Marks union which has a story about a Royal marrying a Jewish man and them leaving for America. I’m wondering if this might be true.

Greetings. Your Y matches seems to be very protogermanic (R-U106) in origin and moving eastward maybe in roman times. Do you did the Big Y?

I just found out I’m M1a4 on 23 and me. They said the mom line came from Ethiopian semite speaking people. The mother DNA of middle Easterners and Jews from diverse Jewish countries .

Traced tree to a couple of Jewish Lineages. Spain Poland (and German best guess using only mtdna K)

Raised as British Isles until parents separated at age 14, then as German.

My DNA is 97.5 British Isles. Just got that mix from highly integrated Europe southeast US area.

Most of my other side to family last names will go back to medieval history which branches away from Britain to Europe. Autosomal is ten generations but to me, I like placing life further back to before 30 year war, which moved German ancestry to US. Plus they moved around in 1500s too.

Druze similar Mtdna probably is from Rhineland Palatinate. Further back grandparent surnames first recorded in Silesia Czech Poland.

Have ancient dna match to Silesia area from group who first entered Europe as neolithic farmers.

But also matched to first early Merovigian nobles, Viking Italians, using MyTrue Ancestry
dna upload.

Shows Celt, Frank (assuming Rhine Valley) then Saxon, Scandinavian. I identify more towards Poland Baltic nature areas, . . .

since converting from relaxed Protestant upbringing

to family hated Latin Catholicism.

Probably retired towards true ethnic identity

as parents divorced and not so out in middle of community going ons. Just my experience.

Using My True Ancestry standard population graphs not personal results: Sephardic ancient groups being Semite with Safavid Amorite Hitite Hellenic Roman mix.

Ashkenazi has Byzantine Roman, Ancient Greek, Hellenic Roman, Seleucid Syrian.

My family tree info used:
Shakespeare Exhumed Bassano Chronicles

After exile:70 AD Belarus later 500AD Narbonne France 2) 1000AD Espana Benveniste to 3) 1492 AD Italia Venetto Di Nasi to 4) 1688AD Colony of Virginia Lanier 5) 1760s AD Southmont Piedmont Tysinger

I thought R1 component in Jews was linked to Levite/Cohen? The area where R originated, where J, E and G originated, are all interconnected going back tens of thousands of years. Northern Mesopotamia, the Caucuses, Iranic Plateau, Anatolia and the Levant are all interconnected going back tens of thousands of years. With people flow in all directions. Since the original Hebrews were not a single people, but a confederation of different tribes, it would explain the diversity of Y haplogroups in the modern Jewish population. All of R1, E3, G2, G1, J1 and J2 could have easily all found there way to the Levant, all part of the pre-Hebrew Canaanite population that would eventually turn into the Hebrews and then Israelites.

I’m an Ashkenazi Jewess 😉 & I have a question. My mother & sister both got their DNA tested for kicks (I guess) & the following were the results
100% Ashkenazi European
With maternal haplotypes as follows:
L->L3->N->W->W3
W3
14, 500 Years Ago
Your maternal haplogroup, W3, traces back to a woman who lived approximately 14, 500 years ago.

That's nearly 580 generations ago! What happened between then and now? As researchers and citizen scientists discover more about your haplogroup, new details may be added to the story of your maternal line.

W3:
W3 is relatively uncommon among 23andMe customers.
Today, you share your haplogroup with all the maternal-line descendants of the common ancestor of W3, including other 23andMe customers.
1 in 1, 100

As confident as they are about W3 being 100% Ashkenazi European, they seem to have zero data on this haplogroup other than that. I’ve looked into it & it seems to be so elusive that many call it group x.
You spoke about a study a few times & they didn’t even include W in their groupings at all.
My family traces back to Rashi, who traced himself back to King David.
Any ideas?? What’s going on here?

R1B among Jews is often said to be a convert male line, I rather think that all R1B is Israelite origin and western europeans descend from Israelite men.
