Cinematic Lighting In A Small Space On A Budget - Part 1

Part 1 of looking into a few ways we can light a small space on a budget. I'm hoping this little series will help people to think about the ways in which this can be achieved and be able to build on these ideas.

Mirrors and mirror board are great tools for bouncing hard light where you can't fit a whole lighting unit - there's a variety of applications for using mirrors in your lighting and in this video we can see how it helps to add a light "shooting through" the window, where we would otherwise have no tools to put a light outside of it. Now as with anything, this isn't perfect - depending on the size of the mirror, distance of light from that mirror and distance of mirror from blinds - it's tricky to light up a bigger area. But for close ups and detailed shots as shown in the video, this sort of thing can save you in a pinch if you have absolutely no way to put a light out of that window!

Only took me 4 years to find youtubers that focus on actual usable lighting tips, not just three point lighting. Thank you

Respect for the way you were able to turn a limitation (lighting within small bedroom) into a quiet masterclass on the aesthetic awareness, detail-orientation and manual creativity of experienced light workers

I really love how you put together your videos. I've been looking for a channel that doesn't have any fluff and doesn't waste my time at the beginning of the video. Yours are informative and to the point without feeling rushed. I feel as though i could follow along with your videos and produce amazing work. Thank you for your videos, i'm really glad to have found tutorials that are straightforward that i don't have to skip through.

I'm finding this channel really helpful! I've been editing professionally for just over 10 years and recently decided I wanted to start shooting my own stuff, but without going overboard on loads of kit. These vids have been really useful!

Diagram plus practical example is the best way one can teach lighting thanks for putting in so much efforts. One of the best channels I've stumbled upon.

This was just amazing! I stumbled across part 2 and had to come back for part 1. Always wondered how smaller LED panels and lights can be achieved to create cinematic lighting effects. This has upped my understanding of light. Thank you!

Excellent!!! 👏👏👏
Cinematography often demands to build our own accessories, like the pioneers of cinema.
Many of the equipment and accessories that we find in the market are designed many times by cinematographers and staff of the lighting and grips departments.
So, if we are smart, we can make a snoot and adapt it to our lights, also cookie, sandbags, gobos, flats, diffuser frames, apple boxes and more and save a lot of money !!!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge!!! 👍👍👍😊

I've just stumbled upon your channel last week and you have the best explanations of cinematic lighting that actually look KILLER. Some people will do lighting tutorials and it just looks okay, but your explanations are so in depth and look stunning. I constantly look forward to new videos from you.
