Most examples of this phenomenon are child stars. They had a taste of fame when they were young and decided it wasn’t for them. Some of them didn’t want to stay in the business once they realize what it entails. Tami Stronach got unwanted attention after portraying the Empress in The Neverending Story. Hayden Christensen was bullied for his performance in the Star Wars prequels.
Others simply lost their love for the big screen. Linda Blair, Lucas Donat, and Danny Lloyd were all part of successful horror movies but never found any other major roles. Jeff Cohen of The Goonies fame also eventually quit acting. Peter Ostrum from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory wanted a normal life again.

Even a few soldiers gave acting a try. John Sweet was an army sergeant who appeared in A Canterbury Tale. Sam J. Jones, otherwise known as Flash Gordon, was a former marine.
Stephen Lea Sheppard had two major roles in The Royal Tennenbaums and Freaks and Geeks. Neither one was enough to give him a long career.

One memorable role can even make a company try to keep you to themselves. Disney allegedly told Adriana Casseloti, the iconic voice of Snow White, that she could never appear in another film.
Anne Sellors is one of the most unique cases. Her single acting credit had such a…unique name that it became an internet phenomenon. It got her IMDB profile viewed more than any other for a year, even though it only had one entry.

I read a post a while back, op was in college, professor asked everyone to say something about hersef. Upon her turn a blond haired girl stood up and said her name, Carrie Hatton, and that she had played Newt on Aliens. They said the class freaked! Lol
