The Alchemist by Paulo Coehlo has an extremely divided audience. Some love the aging allegory while others hate it. Here's where I landed!

I finally got to read The Alchemist a couple of days ago and I really wasn't expecting to love it so much. It's an easy read and may seem basic to some people but that book was just right for me. As a person who is struggling with their calling in life it really changed my perspective and made me think about stuff that I never gave much thought to.

Glad someone with a following is letting people know it’s pretty good and well put without spoilers. This book hit me on so many levels, I read it coincidently while on my flight to LA to “chase my dreams” the book is just so inspiring and full of things to learn from. Someone PLEASE recommend a book similar! 🆘

Paulo Coelho's The Alchemist is a beautifully crafted story that resonates deeply with readers, offering a timeless narrative of self-discovery, perseverance, and the pursuit of dreams. The novel follows Santiago, a young shepherd, on his journey to find a hidden treasure. Along the way, he encounters a series of symbolic figures and life-altering lessons that guide him towards understanding his personal legend and the deeper meaning of life.

One of the novel’s strongest qualities is its simplicity and universal appeal. Coelho presents profound philosophical insights in a manner that feels accessible and engaging. The allegorical nature of the story encourages readers to reflect on their own lives and the obstacles that prevent them from following their dreams. The message that "when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you achieve it" is powerful and empowering, encouraging readers to trust in the process of life and to take risks in the pursuit of their passions.

The novel's exploration of themes like fate, destiny, and the interconnectedness of all things makes it not only a personal journey but a reflection of the human experience. Coelho’s writing is poetic and evocative, with a spiritual undertone that appeals to people of all backgrounds. His ability to weave philosophical musings with a captivating story of adventure is a testament to his skill as a storyteller.

Ultimately, The Alchemist is a celebration of the human spirit, the pursuit of one's true calling, and the magic that unfolds when we dare to follow our hearts. It's a novel that can inspire readers to reassess their own paths in life and embrace the unknown with open arms. Whether you're searching for meaning, struggling with doubt, or simply in need of a reminder of the beauty and wonder of life, The Alchemist offers a timeless and uplifting message that will stay with you long after you turn the last page.

I'm so happy seeing someone who made a book review of one of my favorite authors Paulo Coelho. I have been reading his novel since 2023 and I already read three novels of his. The novels that I had read were The Witch of Portobello, The Zahir, and recently The Alchemist.

The Alchemist was a great novel to me and it is worth a read. This book is perfect for those people who doubted their dreams and the process of achieving it, and those who are still in the process of figuring things out, just like me, if you're one of those, then this is the right book for you to read.😊

This book is very profound. It tells the hero journey with archetypal structures. For example, the old gypsy woman who is the representation of the feminine, the mother. The mother first inquires about your dreams and tells you what you want and where to find it. But she doesn't know how, as she hasn't explored the unknown herself, she is grounded by her family. She gives you information, asking for no payment for the immediate, preparing you for the journey. You sacrifice something of the future to help the woman, just as the son to his mother. The king was a representation of well, a king, and death, and mentorship, saying that sacrifice for the immediate to gain something for the future. This book isn't about chasing your dreams but sacrificing and venturing to the unknown to atleast see bit by bit, what the world has in store

This book has been on my radar for a while. I may check it out. You are right I saw a ton of negative reviews on it and backed away from it a bit. Maybe I will check it out.

I just got done reading this in small chunks, about 30-50 pages a night before bed. I really enjoyed it, and while it was an easy ready, the content gave me a lot to think about. I'm not a spiritual person, but I enjoyed the message of pursuing your "Personal Legend, " and willing to face change and uncertainty for the sake of self improvement. Many times in our lives we choose NOT to do things we dream of because of fear or complacency, but what are we actually giving up when we make this choice?

Just finished it and loved it so much, the storytelling style and amount of lessons that made me put the book down and think momentarily were what made it worthwhile

In my opinion this book is very weak. It tries to be so deep, full of wisdom and spirituality but it fails to build a consistent engrossing plot. All the characters are pretty dull including the alchemist. Most of the plot lines are random especially at the end. The author didn't pave the way properly when the story took a very magical and fantastical turn. The only good plot line is The Crystal Shop story.

I quite liked it - a lovely palette cleanser from `Seven moons of Maadi Almaida` before reading `Treacle Walker` by Alan Garner. I loved the ending the most. Charming, brave and human.

I definitely consider rereading the Alchemist. For some reason, it reminded me of the Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs based on Santiago's journey. 😄
Winner Stands Alone by Paulo Coelho is not exactly a walk in a park, tragedy then sweet resolution kind of book. I guess if you read the book then you understand what I mean. 😂😂😂
