Season one of And Just Like That proved to be… pretty lackluster. And now it seems that even the second season won’t be able to recapture the magic of the original series. So why has the reboot been so unable to reproduce what we all loved so much about the original show? It feels like an entirely different show that just happens to have the same actors playing now completely unrelatable characters named Carrie, Charlotte, and Miranda. Here's everything that made Sex and The City so special, why And Just Like That’s departure from the tried and true formula caused the show to lose its magic, and whether the franchise can be redeemed.

What this show has done to Miranda has been unforgivable. I get that people grow (or regress) and change as time goes on, but AJLT Miranda is nearly completely unrecognizable from SatC Miranda.

Someone on tiktok said the show felt like HR sensitivity training and that's exactly it. The previous show tackled a central theme each episode that played out in different ways in the characters lives, and Carrie would write a column about it. They could've easily kept that format with her podcast, but instead they've lost their way and have given up on storylines and staying true to their characters.

Fun Fact: Even when she was being shot from the waist up, Kim Cattrall insisted on wearing heels. She said it made her feel more like Samantha.

I think AJLT focuses so much on what it thinks its younger audience want (tackling progressive issues and inclusivity) that it forgot what the original show was about: four friends who were each other's soulmates through the good times and the bad.

The worst thing about this is Miranda. Miranda and Carrie had incredible chemistry, and they had always been closer to each other than the rest of the group. That is missing completely, just as Miranda's personality. The character went from her development arc to being some weird character's groupie.

The series should have opened with Samantha passing after a cancer relapse, not Big's passing, necessarily. The entire first season should have been about the remaining 3 wrestling with the aftermath of that, their own grief, AND the fact that the world doesnt treat friendship loss like the loss of a partner/spouse, even though it can be.

OR it should have had Samantha/Carrie have a fallout, but treat it like a divorce story. All the pain, all the "I dont know what to do", all the "how did we GET here". Have the beats of the dating life be trying to make new friends for your own sake, not just Mommy Friends because THAT is real

Didnt Miranda specifically have a scene in a particular SATC episode where she "tried" to be a lesbian but in her own words and I QUOTE she was, "yup...definitely straight"

Also wasnt she the one who said Steve "BROKE US" by him cheating on her? And now she basically did 180 on both of those things. This Maranda ain't the Miranda I know

I know it was of a different time but The Golden Girls focused on older women, their friendships and romances, and did it ((and many other topics) much better than ...And Just Like That

Cinthya Nixon murdered Miranda’s character and overestimated how much the public cares about Che. 😂

SATC was fun, the first season of AJLT felt like I was being lectured at by rich people

Carrie, a sex columnist and an ADULT, couldn't say VAGINA and l tens of people lost their JOBS. The rich author and widow of an even richer guy couldn't care enough to do her job when other people's livelihood was on the line. And she moved on from the podcast so casually. Because she's still rich, they don't matter. Very relatable

I don’t think even Samantha can save the train wreck that is this show.

They changed the shows format which made it unbearable. Every episode of SATC always had a theme that connected each character. In the reboot, there’s too many characters and storylines that aren’t connected to each other. It feels disjointed and random

You can clearly tell that the writers don't know what to do with Charlotte, since she hasn't been given the same amount of attention as Carrie or Miranda have. They also blatantly appear to be setting Seema up as Samantha's replacement.

1. cynthia nixon was not able to separate herself from miranda, but the viewers are. to insist that miranda has a storyline that mirrors her life was just extremly inauthentic. 2. michael patrick king and sarah jessica parker tried to villainize samantha, just like they tried to villainize kim catrall. they were desperate to paint kim as some greedy entitled diva, that they really had SAMANTHA, the most loyal friend and financially most successful of them all, treat carrie as her "personal atm" and cut her off because she felt entitled to her money ahahahah?! carrie felt entitled to other peoples money, e.g charlottes engagement ring, samantha would never. and kim isnt entitled or greedy for demanding to be paid her worth. we now see how much she contributed and how unable they are to recreate it even by adding THREE more women. and only now, that the character assasination has failed, they have her back for a cameo. serves them right, i hope kim made 6 if not 7 figures for those 5 minutes. - that being said, i feel season 3 of the second season was the first time it felt like back then again. i hope it stays like that.

What they did to Miranda was disappointing

“And just like that” feels like “Sex and the city” fan fiction. The storylines are ridiculous and most of them lead us nowhere. The show went from focusing on 4 women to 7 women in order to makeup for Kim’s absence. Sadly they were unable to fill the void. Also, the missing voiceovers only makes matters worse…King & Parker were way in over their heads they tarnished the legacy. There’s nothing they could’ve possibly added to the original series. We didn’t need this reboot just like we didn’t need those holo movies. Kim wasn’t being difficult…she knew there was nowhere left to go with these characters.

I’m 33 and was blown away watching SATC for the first time in my late 20s. It accurately depicted my life in NYC as a single girl… but I couldn’t get past 3 episodes of AJLT. I feel like this show is EXACTLY what people are talking about when they slam “wOkEnEsS.” It’s just cringe.

The show has become preachy. The wealth and extravagance is off putting. Might as well be the nauseating real housewives.

They should have stopped after the first movie. It was the happy ending we waited for. Movie #2 was so bad, this reboot has ruined it for me. I can’t even watch season 2
