In this video I explain why bonsai stays small and how to know when to repot your bonsai tree.

I then show you the way I repot a bonsai. This should give you confidence to repot your own tree if it needs it.

Me -gently teasing roots, selectively cutting to make it look good, using a chopstick to get rid of air holes...
Peter-Rip, cut, ram, done!
I love it!

I like your practical, rough and ready, approach. When you have as many trees as you, it is necessary to be time-efficient. You give beginners like me confidence. Thankyou for sharing.

i love your views on rules, and being able to circumvent certain things (tools, soil, etc) if they're not readily available to you.

it makes starting bonsai seem much more doable and realistic, opposed to if you were saying you can NEVER use normal soil for bonsai, you MUST have seperate pruning/root pruning shears, and so on.

it's one of the things that makes your content so accessible for beginners and for bonsai growers with more experience... the adaptability and in the moment problem solving you show to us is really heartening and makes so much sense. thank you!!

I am in America and would love to go to Britain just to visit your nursery. I am learning so much from you as well as incorporating bonsai lessons into life lessons. Wonderful how approaching bonsai relates to approaching life. I purchased a small ficus and have wired, defoliated as well as repotted all the varieties of jade that I own. One of them once divided up I was able to make into a forest.

I enjoy watching and listening to him. His approach is straight forward and not inserting confusing approaches.

Thanks you very much for your generosity Peter, I live in Patagonia Argentina and as we are in the other hemisphere, we repot the bonsais in August. I work with pines that grows in my farm (Ponderosa, Murray and Oregon pines) I use to collect the yamadoris from the nature and mantain them in a training pot during one year, after that period I put them in a bonsai pot and start with the shaping. I am learning a lot with your videos, again thank you very much for your teaching. Best Regards. JG.
