'Dance Conversations: Indian Dance in Southern California, a Retrospective' Trailer

Arpana Dance Company is proud to announce the next installment of their acclaimed dance interview series: Dance Conversations - Indian Dance in Southern California, a Retrospective.

With the Southern Californian dance company celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2022, company founder Ramya Harishankar takes viewers on a cultural journey, as she interviews collaborators, mentors, students, peers, and scholars to holistically capture Indian Dance’s growth and influence, not just in the U.S., but all over the world. Also includes two episodes with Guru bahens or peers trained under the same guru.

In light of the challenges of COVID and a commitment to showcase a wealth of experiences, Arpana has adapted this special interview series to serve as an archive and testament to the work Ramya, her students, and collaborators have done to build on dance’s legacy.

Recorded over the course of 2020, this 10 episode series has brought together a guest lineup that truly represents the impact of Arpana’s nearly 40 years of work, and how it will continue to shape Indian Dance’s space in the American Arts scene.
