The Avro Lancaster became the iconic British Heavy Bomber of the second world war, in part due to it's large bomb capacity and good performance. These two factors made it suitable for a number of unique, difficult and high-profile operations during that conflict.

Derived from the earlier and unsuccessful Manchester medium bomber, the Lancaster went on to perform with distinction during the war, whilst also finding it's way into a number of different roles including maritime, reconnaissance, cargo transport and civilian use. Finally though, it was replaced by an updated derivative of the aircraft known as the Avro Lincoln in the mid 1950's.

Join me in this video as I build and review the Avro Lancaster B MkI/III plastic model kit in 1/72 scale from Revell.

The model and diorama took about 3 weeks to build, the video took a full day to edit and upload too! So this is a big one!

This first part features the build of the Lancaster, whilst the second part will cover the build of the diorama including the creation of the base, painting the figures & scratch building the scaffold.

No music? You, sir, are a gift from heaven and it is a joy watching you work.

For those of you wondering what an Avro Manchester is, it's a Lancaster but with only two engines. It had a very short production run, and was retired from service in 1942 as the Lancaster was an all round far better aircraft.

Great review; looks like a fantastic kit and you finished it superbly. What a great model.

I have this in my stash, i have all the tools and a fine detail airbrush but this shows you can get really good results with just a paint brush.😊

I remember buying one of these with my paper round money when I was about 12... needless to say it turned out nonwhere this good... fingerprints everywhere and an unpainted interior. Great work on this one!

My first Diorama I build as a kiD was the Revell lancaster Dam Buster G for George with "Secret Bomb" that kit was a late 70's kit and thus to today's standard quite rudimentary.
I took a shelf out of my dresser and covered it with coloured sawdust and some plaster of Paris as tarmac. Then I added the Airfix RAF figures and the RAF Airfield Rescue and Ambulance models. as well as the Airfix refuelling set. I was so proud. :D Thanks for the trip down memory lane!

To solve the silvering problem just brush that area with Tamiya Extra thin cement. WARNING! DO NOT OVERBRUSH IT, if you do it, you it will eat the decal and ruin it, so just a tiny bit, and the silvering will
All in all, its just as I expected, the best kit you posted on your chanel so far: The weathering is moderate, as it should be, paint dryed incredibly well, as I can't see any brush strokes or what so ever, and you nailed the varnish work, as satin coat is the perfect choice, thus making the kit look more realistic, than it would work with a coat of dead matt varnish. I think you might just have a chance to win if you' d send this one out to some All in all a great kit, great work, worth every penny and time you spent, and diorama is just ideal for this kit... Might suggest some RAF gas truck on the grass, but, its not obligatory.... Well done Mat, you maxed it out!

I remeber I was on holiday (6 years old) and the sunroof of our car was out. Heard the massive noise of the engines, and there it was. I shit myself with excitement still one of my favourite planes.

I remember my late father making the Dambusters kit many years ago. Thanks for that memory Matt! :)

That turned out much nicer than I thought it would I must admit.

After all this time I am finally getting the hang of an airbrush and I'd be brave enough (now) to give some exhaust staining with it over the upper wings.

Thanks for a very easy-to-watch video. Full of handy tips like PVA glue for transparent parts. I really liked your pragmatic approach to kit building which balanced time, effort, skill and expense to produce a worthwhile and rewarding result without getting bogged down with fiddly techniques or accessories.

It looks absolutely amazing, especially since you used the brush. Wish I had your skill level! Hoping to see another awesome build soon!

Great to watch a build of these without using a air brush. Not all us Modelers have these so this is a great video to watch.

Brush work really brought back memories. Love the deep flat finish of the acrylic paints.

Very good build and good quality. I was brought up on a Lancaster bomber base in hemswell, in 1947.my dad was a tail end gunner, during the war.

Great build - always love a Lancaster, and your results are very nice. I noticed the same thing with the rear turret falling out when I built mine - makes you realise just how exposed those guys were back there, with the turret more 'stuck on' than being an integral part of the aircraft.

Not only are your builds incredible but I learn something from your videos too! Thanks!

Great video of a nice looking Model there. Small point. The seat you referred to as Flight Engineer, is actually the Wireless Operator. The warmest seat on the aircraft due to it being next to the only heating outlet!
The Engineer sat next to the pilot and the decal you applied to the right- hand fuselage is his fuel gauges.
