Driver Power vs Accuracy: How to Find the Right Balance

Learn how to find the sweet spot in your golf drives between power (distance) and accuracy (fairways hit).

In this video we review the tradeoff between your driver swing power and the accuracy of your drives.

Next time you go to the range, take 10 balls and hit them with your driver as hard as you can. Take note of how many would have found the fairway and how far those that did went.

Then, take another 10 balls but only hit them at 90% power. Again, take note of how many would have found the fairway. But in this case, also take note of how shorter they were in contrast to your full power drives.

This exercise should teach you that in order to gain distance most golfers trade away accuracy. The idea here is to try to determine the optimal match that works for you, between power (distance) and consistency in finding the fairway.

Next time you find yourself facing a narrow fairway, instead of hitting that 3-wood 100% power, why not try hitting that driver but at 90% power instead? The result may surprise you.
