"We tested two people who happened to be of different genders, once, and because they had different results, we now extrapolate that there is a difference between men and women."

Been doing 21hr-24hr fasting (zero caloric intake in between meals), 5x to 6x a week for almost 3years now. Very convenient for me.

I've started Intermittent Fasting in 2017 and I clearly saw improvements in my energy level and body weight. With this my athletic abilities have improved to a level where I can work out at the level I was 20 years back. Based on my experience, the major benefit that IF brings to our life is that we give the digestive system time to rest and rebuild. If we continue eating all day long I assume the digestive system is overworked and with it it takes down our energy level while making us hungry because we condition our hormonal system to expect feeding constantly. Just as a side note, when I eat, my goal is to follow a Mediterranean diet. It doesn't mean I don't like burgers or pizza but I keep those under tight control. If I feel like having pizza then the following week I try to follow with a clean diet. I also try to have a big salad before a pizza or a burger and drink plenty of water before I break the fast in the day. As we everything, success comes from being able to personalize something that we think it is helpful to us.

Tiny study and the two groups weren't eating the same foods or same amounts (one group could have snacks). Eating less will muddy the signal of eating at different times. Always remember: the differences between people are VAST. Small effects like this usually get lost in that noise. Large, carefully controlled studies where extraneous variables are eliminated are required for high-quality knowledge.

Late breakfast is crazy. I always thought it was best to eat breakfast as soon as possible

Right, but be careful because this is a non-comprehensive study that lacks a lot. Measuring how much energy you burn also needs to be calculated long after the workout. One workout and one meal doesn't calculate how much energy you have and store the rest of the day/week/month(s) after you do these things. For one short-term example, if a man burns more on an empty stomach but then stores more as a response when he eats later, you may have done nothing or worse.

Understanding what chemicals and processed food do to your energy levels as well as sleep is really all 99% of people need. Basic advice such as not eating processed foods or sugars and consistent sustainable exercise is a start. Caffeine and eating late's effect on sleep is another big one. Ultimately, start by having enough time to think and plan about the benefits of making small changes to your understanding of food and attitude towards it and exercise. Finally, sustain that effort to the best of your ability as a lifestyle at whatever level you're comfortable with.

Bunk.
First, restricting the meals simply restricted their choloric intake. Nothing more.
Second, eating and sleeping on a schedule regulates hormones better than a scattershot approach.
Third, your sample size is inconsiquential, only a fool would draw conclusions based on such a small sample and limited study.

So how do I do the fasting and excersise on an empty stomach when my blood sugar drops down to 3.6 and I get cold sweats, shaky hands and all the "good stuff"?

Intermittent fasting, whether it's 8/16, 4/20, or OMAD, is of no drawback and always better than being gluttonous.

Muslims are having a very strict mealtime 29-30 days in a year during the fasting month. Should conduct a study on fasting Muslims level of cholesterol and level of blood sugar before, while in and after fasting month of Ramadan. This Dr. Jon Johnson will get a much larger and a much reliable sample to empirically prove the merit of his study.

Did our ancestors chase their food (excercise) first and then ate or visa versa. Duh now you know when to excercise.

Finally.. after years and years of questioning my metabolism and exercise habits. This makes sense. Basically more muscle means less negative impact of sweets and carbs. But a more 50-50 body type, look OuT!! And then the 30-70 body type, well probably u can't have any sugar candies or bread 😞

Are you telling me that we have figured out how to transmit data through the air and live in space, but we still don’t know conclusively whether fasting has health benefits?

You would think it's common sense to not overeat, which is the biggest issue. I think most blame is on parents of obese children, it's such a hard habit to break out of as they get older. Eat once a day, done and done. There is nothing more to it. I can't believe how people can eat 3-4 times a day, that's ridiculous. I'm surprised these people don't have diabetes.

Er - so this guy got paid to say that stiffing your face with sticky buns on top of your evening meal is a bad idea? Wow, who would have thought (that someone would get paid for stating the blindingly obvious).

Can I make it clear that I am a supporter of the trans community as I have friends and relatives who are trans and know their struggles, so this following comment is just a scientific suggestion that would be interesting to do.
With all the debates about trans female athletes it would be interesting if they did the eat before or eat after exercise experiment on trans men and women to see how their bodies work and how the hormone treatment they take does affect their bodies.
