What is an Ohm?

preview_player
Показать описание

When choosing the right set of speakers to go with your shiny new receiver, one of the things you might want to pay attention to is the Ohm rating of the speakers. The higher the Ohm rating on the speaker, the more power is required by the amplifier to drive the speaker and produce the sound. Amps are typically sold with specific Ohm ratings in mind. For example, an amplifier might indicate that it's 1,000 watts at 4 ohms, but this doesn't mean it will be the same when powering a speaker with 8 ohms of resistance.

Do you have an amplifier in your home? What brand/model, and do you know it's optimal Ohm rating?

They did not, in any way, answer the question of "What is an Ohm"- as outlined in the title.

I use an old amp for some speakers that go with it in my room. I have them connected to my iMac. I replaced the drivers, so now they sound pretty nice!

if you need to find volts, resistance, or current here is a easy. voltage is v, current is i, and resistance is r. if you need your current divide v by r. If you need your resistance divide volts by current, if you need your volts multiply your current by resistance.

@Neojhun I dont think this is the case. The overload only happens because there is a temperature sensor and or current detector that detects overheating or too much current rush - so not really an ohm detector, more like a circuit to throttle the output in case of dangerous situation.

Ohm: the SI unit of electrical resistance, expressing the resistance in a circuit transmitting a current of one ampere when subjected to a potential difference of one volt.

They're talking about 4 and 8 ohm speakers and I'm listening to this on 250 ohm DT 990s (I know by default they don't run at 250 without an amp)

I learned this in 9th grade. But I forgot when we were done with it. :)
Got an A on the test about electricity. :)

Does the guy on the right have his own channel and if so, what is it?

@toucheslapper
Some receivers and speakers do have the ohm detection. You just have to have the money to buy them. 80% of them don't. Example : Car Amp = No ohm detection. A Yamaha receiver that costs 900 $ does. Source : I have one buddy.

I was looking at some high-end center channel speakers and they have 2 red inputs and 2 black inputs in the back of the speaker. The receiver I currently have, only has one red and one black output for the center channel. How are you supposed to use all 4 of those ports?
